getting holders mounted...

Recommended Posts

Hey, just a question:

You (experienced) guys always say, that a boot has to be drilled if you want a certain holder. Why dont you drill holes into the new holder to line up with the holes in the skate?

I wouldn't go as far as to say I'm experienced, but my guess would be drilling holes in the plastic of the holder would compromise it's strength.. I've turned screws crooked into a plastic pickguard on a guitar, and it cracked, and split wide open.. just an analogy, but you get what I'm saying. I think it would be too much stress on the plastic holder.

do you shops fill the other holes too when you do this?

I normally fill in the holes on a graf conversion. Eg custom plus on a graf skate, as the holes after taking out the RMS system leaves the holes larger, and possibly the rivets will move in time.

More time and people might say why? But i always explain this to a customer so i dont see them back complaining.

Plus here in the UK its hard getting good custom anyway, id rather keep it!

The dying stage hasnt caught on here in the UK at the moment - Yet.

I will be offering the service soon.

When i take any holders off, i always take the drill to the existing holes just to get rid off any parts of a old rivet etc which can get caught up.

Then i normally put in a couple of rivets in at the back to keep holder in place while using a metal hole punch the same size as a rivet to keep the holder in place, otherwise you can oftern mount the holder incorrectly (as ive had customers come to me after somebody else has screwed them up and complaining that they are bent).

Just if you are getting holders done at a shop, check them before you leave the store and make sure they are ok!
