Shin Gaurds

Recommended Posts

I posted a question a couple months ago and never got much of a response but here it goes again... :D I have a pair of hespler x-lite shin gaurds. they are very low quality shin gaurds but they got the job done for highschool hockey. for this season im looking for a better performing shin gaurd (if there is such a thing lol  ). I have size 16 in the hesplers and they are too short they dont touch the top of my boot and considering i play defense that is a problem for me. i was wondering if anyone had suggestions on shin gaurds and the sizing deal bc 17 inchers seem like theyd be a little to long  ... which makes another question is it better to be a little to short or a little to long when buying shin gaurds? I know there are only a few shin gaurd models that actually have a 17in available so that also has to be thought about when suggesting the model and make

sorry for all the questions

Travis

I can answer one of your questions. It's better to go longer than shorter if you wear your shin pad over your tongue, if you wear your skate tongue out, you should go shorter.

sorry i forgot to mention i wear them over the tounge. i was kinda concerned that theyd be too long and "get in the way" while skating or move and not sit right on my knee cap.

Why don't your try them on with a pair of skates on ( If you hadn't done that already) bend your knees and ankles to see if they are rising up and just make your own decision because I don’t think anyone can really help you much.

Id go with the 17 since you were them over the tounge. Id also try to look into some close out jofas or some new rbk's. Really the best shin gaurds out there. I think a lot of people will agree with me here.

i was actually considering the 5k from RBK. they seem to be a good shin pad and they have the 3 straps rather than the 1 that the jofas had. they also have the calf wrap which i like the idea of but none of my lhs have them that i could try them on with skates on. its kinda rough... i figured i got my skates from my lhs bc of the proper sizing and also the heat fitting and customer service but i cant support them when it comes to protective equipment as much bc of lack of equipment. and to PL_Elite i realize no one can really give me the exact answer i need but experiences people have had or input from older and/or wiser members would definately be greatly appreciated

I have the 5k and I wear them over the tongue and they touch the top of the boot, and they do not rise up.I dislike the calf wrap, its removable and it was way too bulky, other than that they are solid shin pads.

I agree on the RBK shins, they seem really protective. I wear Bauer 8000 shins right now, and I also like those. The 6Ks are my favorite because they dont have the rise up theigh pad which annoys the hell out of me. When I buy new shin guards, I like them about an inch above my ankle bone. I wear them over my skate tongue.
