Gonchar signs with Penguins

Kovalev, another winger, a goalie, and some grit. They're not looking to go crazy.

A goalie? Don't they have the best young NHL goalie in MA Fluery?

The best young NHL goalie's name is Kari Lehtonen. They do have the biggest bust in recent draft history though, in Fleury.

How can a bust be described with "you'll see"?

What constitutes him being a bust? Holding his own on the NHL level with the worst defense in the league in front of him?

3.64 and .898 is holding his own?? Let's not forget his choke job at the WJCs and in Cape Breton two years ago. Fleury always plays great for the first half of every season, then totally disembles in the second half. It has happened every season throughout his career.

Like I said, you'll see.

Don't you call a guy a bust after the fact...not before?

And yes...I forgot about Kari.

You call it whenever the hell you want. It's called making a prediction.

Dominek Hasek didn't exactly dominate right out of the gate...give him time...he's not even 20 yet.

Then the correct words would've been "he'll be a bust".

I personally thought he was done, WJC meltdown, he played terrible the whole tourney, not just the Gold Medal game, and losing his starting job in Juniors, but he seemed bounce back nicely in the farm last year.

- Where is the Habs Kovalev signing? Is this a prediction or done deal?

Depends who you ask. Habs fans say Montreal....Pens fans say Pittsburgh. Everyone else says "who cares"

Sure, "He'll be a bust.". I just like throwing out assurances instead of probabilities because he WILL flop in the NHL.

Kovalev to MTL is a done deal. http://msgnetwork.com/index.jsp

"The NHL free agent frenzy continues. MSG's Deb Kaufman reports ex-Ranger Alex Kovalev will return to the Canadiens with a four-year, $18 million deal"

He played well for WBS last year, but Chiodo is really streaky. So when he'd get a start, if he played well, they'd keep him in for a few.

I'm interested to see who they end up with (the Habs). Seems like they are after a good forward, but alot of other teams seem to be outbidding them.

Does anyone else think Gonchar is a not excellent signing? The number one reason I'd want him is to run the PP and for offense from the blueline. With the Pens forwards, I think they would've been better off grabbing Berard, using the money of Kovy and some grit and going from there. I like Gonchar, but I don't see him "fitting" as well as some other possibilities. He's never a bad signing, but I think he would've worked out somewhere that needs more offense. Maybe NJ as a replacement for Nieds, Minnesota, somewhere like that.

Fleury's an '84, so he'll turn 21 later this year (I think Nov)

And he played on the most piss poor team imaginable in Pittsburgh.

I think you mean Chicago...

Pitts was worse than Chicago overall, and Chicago was a more defensive team from the little I saw of them. MAF handled 35-40 shots a game.

Wow...Give him a break. Goalies take a while to develope and most hit their prime after 25. How old is Fleury? 19-21? And he played on the most piss poor team imaginable in Pittsburgh.

The Pens have also done everything possible to shake his confidence. If the kid makes it in teh NHL it will be despite the way he was brought along, not because of it.

They would have been better served to get two guys who are good defensively and ok at the offensive end. Now they have two guys on the point who are better in the other end than they are in their own.

the rumor is that cujo is going to end up in pittsburg.

if that happens, the pens may put up a real fight in the east. im also thinking about keeping cujo in my fantasy league if he ends up on the pens. if not, im going with vokoun (i know, my goalies were WEAK last season).
