Shootouts during playoffs?

Does anyone know whether the shootout rule change for next season will also apply to playoff games? I hope not because watching a game going into the second or third overtime period is one of the great treats for hockey fans IMO.

The NHL has made some pretty dumb decisions but they wouldn't be that dumb. Ending a regular season game with a shoutout is iffy thank god there not doing that for the playoffs.

the shootout's not replacing the overtime period right? its just going to be used to decide a winner of a regular season game if the game is still tied after OT right? Because it would be wicked gay to replace overtime with a shootout.

I think it's a 4 on 4 OT for 5 min. followed by a 3 on 3 shootout for regular season games. No more pts. for OT if you lose. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I love watching some of the 3 overtime period games. Must be tensful on the bench. I love the Stars/Sabre game back in 1999 i think, where Hull won it. I agree with you Cheechoo it is a real treat.

I really like the idea of having no more ties. Nothing like the feeling of an exciting game ended in a tie <_<. But of course they shouldnt do shootouts in the playoffs. That is half of the passion in the playoffs. Everyone likes the 7 game overtime series over a four game sweep.

Yeah, I remember that too. I found the crease rule to be pretty stupid. I'm still 100% behind the rule where you can be in the crease as long as no contact is made with the goaltender.

funny you guys bring up that goal i was just reading THN great debates earlyer today and that was one of the articles its title was like"what id hull's goal didnt count" i can remember watching that game and i was rooting for the stars and even i said man that goal shouldnt have counted.
