New Skates

Recommended Posts

Right now my shoe size is inbetween an 8.5 and a 9. So I'm not sure whether to get my skates .25 bigger or .75 of a size bigger just in cause .25 of a size is not enough. I am 16 years old and not really sure if I am done growing yet so I do not know what to do. Any suggestions?

Yeah I went to my LHS yesterday and tried some. Graf 735's fit the best and don't know how much room I will get when it gets baked or used. How much room do you guys think I will get for growing if my toes are barely grazing the end when I try them on?

i had a recent problem with sizkin skate...so i'm better shut up lol!!but what i ussually do(i'm 15yr) is buy a right sizing skate with a bit of room...not too too tight!!(and when i go to the store i put big white sock)...then after maybe 1 year my feet grow up...so now i start using thin thin sock...and it can add 6 to 12 month to my skates...but since 1 year i think i didn't take more than .5...so i think i stop growing...

take it for what it worth!

i usually have been told to stand up and lean forward pushing my foot to barely touch the toe cap. you want a bit of space in the heel, maybe an index finger or so.

Wrong. You want to be able to feather the cap with your toes while your heel is all the way back in the skate. If you can put a finger behind your heel then your skates are too big.

i feel fine in skates with an small finger in the back. but i grow out of skates every year even after doing this. i have been told being able to just touch the cap with your heel kicked in is ideal, but i dont have that luxury because my feet are still growing quite a bit.

i would have to disagree. they are baked upon purchase so my heels stay locked. i can honestly say that i cant tell a difference from the beginning of the year where there is a bit of space from my toes to the cap, to the second half of the year where my toes feather the cap.

As long as you aren't growing anymore that works. Otherwise I'll have customers who only get 5 or 6 weeks out of skates for their kid.

Sorry, but thats just PP...

I had a skate where i was feathering the toe cap and on the ice and being in action it was very uncomfortable.
