DiPietro Contract

Sounds like a juvenile version of the symbolic gesture. Yes, they both want each other, but it's like proposing to that chick to tell her you want to go past the second date with her; not necessary, ridiculous, and logistically frightening.

I am fairly sure there is a maximum of 5 (maybe 6) year deals in the new CBA. It was more of a gesture of confidence and loyalty to keep him around.

His starting for team USA and constant improvement in the NHL before the age of 23 doesn't do it for you? I thought he was one of the best goalies in the league towards the end of the year. The kid is very young and had a huge jump to the NHL.

That means nothing. The US doesn't exactly have to many talented goalies. I don't think Dipetro is that great a goalie yet.

Starting for USA, I could have sworn the last big USA thing, that Robert Esche was the starting goalie, and that Dipi only played 1 game while Esche had played 4 or 5

call me crazy but that might be one heck of a deal for the islanders. take a look at these points

1. 67.5 mill in 15 years is about 4.5 mill.

2. 4.5 mill a year for a goalie will get you a average to star goalie.

3. Dipietro will be a star goalie if not a franchise goalie.

4. if i remember correctly is that there is no insurance about 5 years if he gets hurt

5. the cap will go up in a few years

6. 4.5 mill in even 5 years will only get you a average goalie and in 10 years it'll be nothing...

that is one heck is a deal if you ask me and it's not like it's that big a gamble i mean he did get 2.36 goals against and .910 save percentage, sounds like good numbers to me and VERY good numbers for a 23 year old playing 50 games.

I've heard the cap will most likely be going down in a few years. I'm also pretty sure this contract or something along the lines of means the Islanders will not have enough cap space to sign Parrish there best goalscorer.

Optimists say the cap will go up, pessimists say it will go down. It all depends on how well the new rules and marketing(?) pays off.

Parrish is likely gone regardless now.

Latest rumours is Parrish being shipped in a package to Vancouver for Cooke and a few others.

2 Teams in cap trouble trading the guys they can't afford doesn't make much sense to me. Parrish will make more than Cooke and Cooke wants 1.5.

I can't see why the Islanders would want to trade Blake but it is the Islanders were talking about there not exactly one for great moves. Blake is a player that you can't go wrong with having on your team. I think he just brings alot to the table.

Seems to be rumblings that he can be a cancer at time...He was Peca's boy as well and was not too happy about his departure. Also, before a game last year and Islander almost got in a fight with him out on the ice. Great work ethic on the ice, his speed can kill, and he can produce, but I can see him as a cocky player who could cause problems.

Thats funny, I've always thought of him as a cocky little bastard. Don't know why.
