Quick release is something you have to develop with practice. Think of it as plyometrics for your hands.

One drill I have seen is to line up10 pucks in a line parallel to the front of a goal, putting 5 on the right side and 5 on the left side of you. Then you try to hit them into the goal one at a time as fast as you can using forhand on one side and backhand on the other 5.

Similar to Biff's drill, one of the coaches here does a drill like that but has the kids shoot one of the forehand, then circle behind the net and shoot one from the other side on his backhand. As soon as you reach the puck, you shoot.

I just line up pucks around the top of the crease and try to roof them as quickly as possible. I'll do one set on the forehand and one on the backhand.

if you have open ice, it's better to practice going full speed and getting it off fast as you can. The shots will suck at first, but you'll get better as you improve at it. Although, I can't promise it will always transfer into hard shots during games. (for those of you who saw my topic from a couple days ago) ;)

There are two components that need to be trained. First you need the musles to be able to accelerate the stick to make the fast shots. Secondly, you need to develop the speed at which the brain/muscle pathways fire to ge the shot off quickly. Both take practice.

how can these muscles be developed using weight trainning, if they can be?

Any wrist/forearm work will help with power but will not make your wrists quicker.

Work on your grip and your core muscles, especially the low back and transverse abdominus (suck in your stomach) to increase the efficiency of the power transfer of your body.
