wickedwrister 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2005 I have been skating on the same skates for about 1 1/2 years with no problems. The past 3 or 4 skates, I have developed a "hot spot" on my shin about 1/2- 3/4" above where it meets the top of my foot. Right under where the top or second eyelet goes over the shin/ foot. It feels similar to a very low shin splint or someone ripping out the hair on my leg and hurts enough to effect my skating. The effected area is not red, but a tiny bit swollen. Anyone else had this "suddenly appear" on a broken in pair of skates? Time for new ones? Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.
ktang 34 Report post Posted September 9, 2005 Is the tendon sheath swollen in that area?
chippa13 1844 Report post Posted September 9, 2005 My guess is that it could be a combination of your shin pad and tongue. The tongue of the skate had probably softened up enough that your getting your skated tied a little tighter at the top and that is forcing the bottom of your shin pad into your that area when you skate. All this is moot if you wear your shins outside the tongue.
shute 4 Report post Posted September 9, 2005 ya i had that problem happen from one nights screw up. i ended up tapeing my skates really tight one night and i must of hurt that area or something cause it went down hill from then on. I'm all better now but i still wear gel padding cause i just don't want to go through the pain again. You should buy some special padding or at least fold up some thin socks and tape it to that area for some padding. i was in a lot of pain for like 3-4 months where i would skip hockey just because it hurt so much everytime i skated and it took about a year before it was fully healed. just make sure you do something right away before it gets worse. I played drop-in this morning and put a square of cut sweatband on my shin and tied it under the tongue. It seemed to help some. Still quite sore. Strange...no redness or bruising; just a touch swollen. Maybe I can use this as an excuse for some new skates :P
