A question about lie

Lie numbers have always seemed rather arbitrary to me, so I'm wondering, what do they really mean?

How is lie measured?

Are bigger numbers better for taller skaters or is it the other way around?

I use a 5.5 lie but tend to wear the heals of my sticks out first. Should I be using a different lie?

You should be using a lower lie or a shorter stick.

Bigger numbers make the shaft more vertical in relation to the blade, 5 is 45 degrees.
