So... I'm getting some CCM 452 Tacks

Recommended Posts

I'm getting some 452 Tacks pretty soon. Just started taking a hockey class and the rental skates are complete garbage. Just wanted to know what others thought of these skates (CCM 452 Tacks) as far as learning how to play goes. Of course, I'd be upgrading once I'm better - think of these as temporary.

Overall, I think my reply would depend on how much you spent on them.

However, from what I understand, it is a good, entry level type skate (glad you opted not to take the Rapide or 252 - no significant side wall support on the 252, which new skaters would likely need due to weak ankles from a hockey skating standpoint).

I have used CCM near exclusively in my hockey "career" and have always found their skates to be dependable. If the "type" fits (as all brands fit differently), I don't think you've made a bad decision.

However, if investing anything over $100, and if you know your size, you can possible get a lot "more" skate if you buy close out stock from somewhere (Externos, ProTacks, 1152's, 862's, etc are available if you shop online for around $150 these days it seems).

Just my two cents.....

As long as they fit, you'll be fine.

I've said many times that in my opinion, CCM 652 Tacks are one of the best values out there, so you're just one step below so you're close. And you didn't have to sell the farm to afford them so good for you.

As for socks, any thin, moisture wikking sock will do.

Good luck!
