New SUV, opinions?

if you're going to buy a porsche, buy the cayman.  it might just be me, but i see volkswagen jetta in the headlights and grill, and Aston martin in the ass.  the sides and profile is all ferrari 612 scaglietti.  all this adds up to ugly

I doubt the next porsche I buy will be a new one. Personally, I like the looks of the Panamera. But even if I didn't... it's going to drive incredibly well, which is all that counts. My Cayenne isn't the best looking car on the road, but it's fun as hell to drive and can carry much more cargo than I'll ever be able to fit in my 996.

And I would agree with you about the Cayman, but I'd need another $40k to set it up to the way it should be made from the factory.

Edit: And if anyone is looking at buying a Cayenne V6, I'd take a look at the Tourag V8 first. The must have option (for me at least) on the Cayenne was the air suspension which IMO makes a huge difference.

what sort of things would you add?

with the air suspension, does it make the cayenne ride better or is it a gadget thing?

If I got a Cayman, I'd drop in a GT3 engine. Then tune it (DME, intake, headers, exhaust, etc.). That would make for a mid engined coupe putting out 430+ hp and it would weight in less than 2500 lbs. Porsche could release one as an RS, but then nobody would buy a 997S. The engine alone would run close to $30k, which is why it'd be so expensive. I'm sure RUF will be releasing a kit like that for the Cayman sometime in the future.

It makes the ride a lot smoother than the with the spring suspension (especially on 21"s). It's also an adjustable ride height which comes in handy during bigger snowfalls, higher waters (LI was flooded two weeks ago and there wasn't a road I couldn't drive down), or just when working under the car.
