Cheap Ice Hockey Skates

Recommended Posts

Ok, I am pretty new to ice hockey, I have been playing roller for a few years but I think I want to try out ice this summer. I don't want to spend a whole lot of money on ice skates, but at the same time I don't want crappy skates that will fall apart or that are very uncomfortable. Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance.

The Vapor X skates for $179 ish might not be a bad buy. If you decide to stay in the sport playing rec or something they would be really good for you I think. Either that, or you can get top of the line closeout skates from 2002 and 2003 for cheap. (IE, Easton Z air comp SE, $200, orignally $450)

Both the 652 Tacks and the Supreme 3000s are good options (I can't comment on Easton). While its always smart to try them on first, generally Bauer will fit narrow feet better and Tacks will fit wider feet.

ive only tried the ultra lite pro SBX's and i have to say they're a great skate. I've had mine about a year and theyre durable, reliable, and very comfortable, the only flaw ( and many ppl here can back me up) is the razor blades, you may want to consider replaceing them, but if your just starting these are a great skate to start out with.

Of the three, the Bauers are probably the most durable. You should really try some skates on to see what fits your foot best.

The old Nike Ignite skates are very good (I use the Ignite 2's) and the 2's can be found for under $100. They're suppossed to be similar to the Bauer Supremes from that year. Like the Ignite 1's are the 7000's then the 2's are like the 5000's and so on... That's just what I heard.

given the choice, I'd probably pick the 3000s but then again, I do not know what fits best on your foot. If you can go to a store and try them on before you order them online, that'd be best. Personally, I'm not the greatest fan of CCM skates while others will swear by them but all of them are pretty good deals.
