does anyone know what a SEGA MEGA DRIVE is?

Recommended Posts

Yes, you could play these "Arcade" games at home, where you normally paid like a quarter to play them on these Arcardemachines.

But i was a Nintendo guy tho.

Sega realized the real money is in making games for all the consoles .

The consoles themselves are generally sold at a loss or break even at best.

They were called Sega Genesis in North America, and yes, I had one. I didn't have many games though, I had Sonic the Hedgehog and a couple hockey games, NHL 95 and the Swedish version of the same game, Elitserien 95 (it was technically the same game, the differences were that it was in Swedish language and featured Swedish teams instead of NHL teams). Very cool console and those hockey games were awesome at the time. :)

Actually, it wasn't b/c the money is all in the games (it is though), it's b/c Sega got fu#$ed when the Dreamcast came out before the market was ready - the machine was fantastic and was ahead of its time. That really hurt Sega and there was practically no recovery from the losses incurred by the Dreamcast "flop."

Thus, they decided to use their venerable library of characters and license them as a third party developer...many think that after this round of console wars, Nintendo will go the same way, and from the looks of their shit-tastic revolution system, I'm inclined to agree. I've been a lifelong nintendo fan though, and am hoping that they prove me wrong...

And oh yeah, the Mega Drive, IS just a Japanese Genesis.

And how do you know its shit? Have you used it? I doubt it..... It looks nice, and itll only retail for 149.99 so im sure theyll get some profits

I never said I knew it was shit, I said it looked like it was shit. I'm skeptical. The controller looks like ass and these days, we all know what gamers want - FULL METAL BLOODY HALO GOD THEFT AUTO XXX 3 with "the awesomest graphics ever dude!" Everyone's a graphics whore these days. <_<

The GameCube also retailed for less than everyone else...it didn't get them very far (yes, I have one and I love it)...and at 149.99, I doubt that is far above cost if at all, so Nintendo is probably LOSING money on each console, hoping to make up for it in software sales - it's the standard profit model in the industry.

The Revo might just be revolutionary, but people are averse to innovation these days, which I why I'm expecting Nintendo to come out on the bottom again - I can hope it'll be a success, but by the looks of it, the outlook for the big N doen't appear too bright, which saddens me, b/c I am a Nintendo fan.

The new revolution will be wireless 'naturally', and will have a special jiro device so if you tilt the controller the computer will react and do something for it on the screen for games like first person. Will like to see how the hold up after you throw the thing across after loosing (as you do) :D

They now released a series of Mega Drive/Genesis retro things...it´s basically the old school sega controller that has a chip in it with 6 games. You just put the controler in your TV and you can play all those games. NHLPA hockey is in one of them as well. Don´t know if that hit the north american market, though.

I got the Sega CD add on as my xmas present one year, then they stopped making games for it nearly immediately....again ahead of it's time.

I regret trading my dreamcast in on my ps2 to this day.....you can get dreamcast's pretty cheap now though, easy to play burned games, etc. Who am I kidding......I wish I still had time for games

(all grown up now I guess)

I think I was one of the other six people in the US to buy the CD drive for the Genesis.
