Making The Cut/Le Repechage

Recommended Posts

Some have the will, some don't. Other's have everything to themselves others don't. I sure know that if I would have had a good environment and parents who have money to help me go to camps and gyms I would probably have went a bit further in my hockey career cause I am really a hockey freak, I love everything about hockey. Some have the money to persue their dream, some don't, some have the passion, some don't. That show must not only base their picks by the talent but by the will of performing and beeing beter each time you get on the ice. I know that if I would have the right instruments, trainers and the passion that I have for the game, I could have gone far. I want to go there not for a last resort point of view, but for a chance that was never given.

Well-said, yeah NHL level is the best level in the world, but what I mean is what you said, if someone love this sport, why he couldn't be able to go to this level. Like my father once said, everyone have 2 arms and 2 legs, it's up to you after that.

But if that was even the case, scouts would have them by now.  The change of pace has is unbelievable.

Theo, what about Martin St-Louis, he has never been scout for the NHL, for the LHJMQ and even for the Midget AAA and he's the best player in the NHL this year. So what you mean is not true. I know a lot of players who has never been drafted and that are better than some NHL players.

You know that you have absolutely no credibility on here, right? NHL scouts aren't pefect, obviously. There is no way that they can accurately predict how good someone will be, but it seems like they do a pretty damn good job. St. Louis is a fluke.

If they forgot St-Louis, why they will not forget any other player. Yeah, their is amazing talent in the NHL, but NHL is not that extremly good. I play with NHL guys on summer time and they are not that good. As example, Yanic Perrault, I'm faster than him and I have more puck skills than him. The only area he's better than me is in the faceoff circle and he has an amazing scoring touch. And what about Dan Corso, faster than light but he got hands of stone and a poor hockey sense. I can say a lot of those but I will stop there for the moment.

So why aren't you in the NHL, cause you have no scoring touch? How old are you?

St. louis was smart. he decided to go to D1 collrge rather then play juniors. he got himself a degree, and was the all time leading scorer at UVM, with perrin in second (his linemate). He didn't get drafted because he was unheard of because he was so small, but he defied the odds wherever he played. as a small 18/19 year old, look at his UVM statistics, which is in the ECAC which is a tough league.

I'm 18 years old. The NHLers in the league said that my puck skills is up to the NHL level. But they always laught of my physical strenght. In fact, the contact is not allowed in the league. I'm 6`2``and 155 pounds. Sylvain Perrault, the brother of Yanic was better than him when they were playing minor hockey together. But Yanic has 2 incredible skills that his brother has never had. He's best in the world for faceoff and he can pick up any corner so easily, his accuracy is really amazing. Yanic is not a good skater (knock-knee skater) and this is his biggest problem. He's a normal puckhandler, not that good in puckhandling skills. The best puckhandler in this league between all the NHLers who are there is Stéphane Robidas. This guy is really underrated, maybe because of his little stature. He can turn on a dime. The NHLers told me that if you can have a particular ability that can put you in the top 10 in the league, your chance to play there a day is really increase. There are east coast guy that have all-arround ability that can be compare to the NHLers in the league, but they don't have that special skill that can put them in the NHL. And like many said the difference between NHLers and minor leaguer player is often the vision of the ice.

I've read this thread numerous times. I cannot find out what your point is though Kovy? The most talented guys aren't in the NHL? or NHL scouts miss the best players?

St.Louis is a perfect example against your argument. He was off the charts and not even considered, yet he made the NHL. Obviously when they weren't looking for him, he made them look. If you don't have that desire you shouldn't be in the NHL. You forgot that Yanic Perrault has much better reaction time and Vision of the ice than you do. Possible the most important skills to play in the NHL.

Can you just confirm the point your trying to argue?

This conversation is going nowhere. I used to "tolerate" Kovy_Ribs because I just assumed he was twelve, and I guess this is some what understandable for people that age. But now that I know that hes 18....shit its embarassing.

That is sure if your good, if the talent is there and if you keep working and loving this sport, they will see you somehow. It's exaclty what St-Louis did. And what I want to mean is that there's not that much difference between NHL players and a very good amateur hockey player that can't play there. But for sure all the most talented guy in the world are in this league. And for Yanic's vision it's sure that in front of the net his reaction time is just amazing.

Oh, and I forget an other thing, the strenght of NHLers could not compare with amateur. I think this is the biggest difference. These guys are beast.

For anyone to actually have a chance at this show, they will most likely ahve either played major junior or Division I. Also, the guys who maybe do win could even have already gone to an NHL training camp before.

If a player is "missed" by a scout and they continue to work hard and improve, they will be seen by a scout that will believe in thier talent. St Louis is a perfect example. He played wherever he could and continued to work to make himself a better hockey player. Spending time on the internet telling everyone how good you are won't help your chances. Partly because we aren't scouts, partly because people won't believe you and partly because we don't care.

I consider ice Vision and reaction time key skills in playing hockey. There may be more talented players in Europe, maybe some that should be in the NHL. For whatever reasons they choose to stay in their leagues. I'm sure if they are good enough the scouts have approached them. A guy like Dopita comes to mind who was supposed to be a great pick-up for the flyers coming over more mature than others and with alot more experience, but his talent wasn't enough to have him play in the NHL because the calibre of players he was against couldn't compare with the NHL level. It's like having a friend who you feel your better than leave for a better league, when he comes back he will be better than you expect. I've seen it happen numerous times.
