Bauer 8090 vs RBK 8K

Recommended Posts

I'ver worn both, found the 8090 to be lighter and more responsive.

To me the 8k and the original line of rbk skates had nothing spectacular going for them. In fact, after i wore the 8k i put on a pro tacks, and to me the skates were identical.

i'll disagree with that one, i've tried both and found a big difference. I liked the tack better, it gave me alot more room in the heel and ankle.

As for the post, the 8090's were way too wide for me after feeling how my foot fit into the pro tack.

I had to deal with NBH customer servive when trying to find the right Bauer skate to fit me and I told them basically Most of the LHS don't know S!@T about the products they are selling and NBH customer service just shruged me off!! And I would'nt have a problem with that if XXX's were 100 bucks and stealths 50 bucks but we are dealing with Big bucks and now hearing that one90 is MSRP for 600.00; "come on". It is bauers resposibility to educate the LHS about their products. after my hole ordeal I have documents from experts and fitting guides from ccm and bauer and would consider myself more of an "expert" than half of the local hockey shops around here! again Please exclude JR from this post --He has been my #1 source for all my concerns and problems and also alot of guys from this site.

Out of curiosity, could you post the Bauer docs on fit?(If it doesn't break any rules)

Does it mean 8K has tighter heel than Pro tacks? How about depth-wise?

haven't skated in the 8k's but the 8090's are the best skate out there if you like a traditional, stiff skate. they are very stiff, i've had mine for 2 years, and even though the liner is getting crusty, the rivets are rusted, quarters cut, the support is still there. it's amazing how they can make such a durable and stiff boot so light. also, i think the lightspeeds are more my thing over the eblades. the eblades are much stiffer than the lightspedes, and i prefer a little give, makes turning easier for me.

The RBK:s would fit deeper (Tacks are pretty shallow) and the midfoot area fits wider suited to people with higher insteps.

Reference to stiffness posted here.......interested in your perceptions on skate stiffness....please define stiffness the way you see it... ankle support stiffness, facings & eyelet pattern stiffness, tendon guard stiffness, foot extension stiffness, forward flexibility stiffness, 1/4 panel stiffness, break in period....durability?

My perception will be the two side of the skate, including ankle.

Stiff=more solid, more durable against shot & time of use, at the same time longer break-in time.

Will check out skates tendon guard stiffness too. Like it to be strong and durable but I know it is the first thing to soften up so often.

Are u really from R&D Nike Bauer?

If so, is the one90 the exact fit of 8090?

Well, I doubt he'd have it saying he is if he wasn't. We have quite a few mfg guys floating about here.

And tendon guards soften up on the wings on my Vector Pros fast, but vertically don't move at all.

Amen to that brother!

I havent seen them before but, the reason i think everyone is saying that the 8k is not as stiff as the 8090 is becasue the 8k is a lower profile boot. imo

Same thing with my flexlites and mission flyweights (low cut). The flexlites are stiffer when laced up but, when analyzing both, the mission actually have stiffer quarter panels.

i think most people consider stiffness as the way the skate feels , so it would be a combination of everything you mentioned besides durability.

for me, it's mostly ankle support stiffness and eyelet pattern stiffness that define a skate's stiffness. just basically how much it resists side to side and front to back motions.

i think having a low arch and a narrow foot don't allow my feet to get a very good feel for skates that aren't bauer.

And thats definitely going to be the problem with skates, it's all based on personal fit and foot type.
