Different holders

Recommended Posts

There are a lot of different holders, as we all know, and i got a question.

Where are the magnificant differences between all those holders, Tuuk C+, Tuuk LS1/2, Graf Cobra, CCM Prolite, CCM E-Pro, Crow and all others (the Mission-Pitch one is kinda obvious ..) ?

Well i can explain some facts by myself, e.g. durability, but wheres the big advantage of swapping them?

Thats what i always wanted to know.

Thanks.

I know that the LS and LS2 holders are the same, the steel is what's different.

LS holders are 3mm higher sitting than Custom +'s.

Cobra's have a 1/32 forward pitch factored into them standard.

Others can answer more, I don't know much more than that.

Pro lites tended to break pretty easily so a lot of people replaced them with more durable holders.

In the old CCM skates, the outsole at the forefoot was too curvy, but the holder itself was more flat, so that put a lot of stress at the front of the holder at it often cracked on hard impact. It was not as bad once they got the got the outsole profile and holder profile to match, but in general the prolites were not very durable.

Differences in durability, based on what I have observed in doing repairs and replacements. Ranked most durable to least.

-------------------------------------------------------

Mission Formula - I've never seen one broken

RBK/CCM E-Pro - never seen one broken

Mission Pitch - small sample size, too early to tell, but holder seems solid

Easton RazorBladz - common cracks at toe or heel, near the bolts

Graf Cobra - small cample size, but never seen any major problems

Tuuk LS/LS2 - a few have "torn" at the rivets

Tuuk Custom+ - thin walls, collapse on heavy impact

ProLites - lite construction, easily chipped due to lots of exposed hard edges

Differences in feel, based on personal use, and customer feedback

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuuk Custom + - use these on current skate, feels very "lively" and well balanced weight. I can feel that my toe snap has more spring to it. Great edge feel.

Tuuk LS/LS2 - customers who used Custom + mostly comment they cannot tell the difference

Mission Formula - heavy, poorly balanced, very stiff, feels like bricks on my feet.

Mission F-Pro - not as stiff as Formula, good balance, more responsive, but still heavy.

Mission Pitch - customers claims to be similar to Tuuks, notice more weight and a bit stiffer.

Easton RazorBladz - Very stiff feeling in the towers. I cannot get a nice lively feeling in my stride. I tried the Parabolic runners, and you can definitely feel Parabolic bending on turns and stops.

CCM Prolites - stiffness is similar to Easton, but more evenly distributed. Front does feel a bit stiffer than Tuuks. Not as still as Eastons. More forward lean. Very lightweight.

CCM E-Pro - feels similar to F-Pro, with more forward lean.

Cobra - no info

I personally think Custom+ is one of the most durable flexing holders (I say flexing because Cobra and F-Pro holders are more durable but they don’t flex nearly as much as a Tuuk or an E-Blade). I know what you mean by thin walls on the Custom+ because I've seen the same exact breakage numerous times, but every time it has been on skates that are five or more years old. Time deteriorates plastic, and holders that are five years old are more likely to break over ones that are six months old.

Yes, very true--it is usually the older TuuksCustoms+ that break. Which I why its not much of an issue to me personally. They are still number one on my list. I've yet to test drive Lightspeeds or Pitch's, but would love to see how responsive they are.

i've only ever been on pro lites, cobras, and t blades, i noticed minimal difference in lean between the cobras and the t blades, but i really hated my flatter ccm skates. i wanna try some c+'s, meerly for the steeze factor. i'm kinda hooked on t blades now though.

No problem! =)

I have no info on T-Blades because our shop does not carry them, and we do not carry Grafs cobras. All I can say about those is that I HATE Graf screws! Also the Crow and "Crew" holders have been discontinued last I heard. A while back, I thought Bauer might have naturally evolved into the side screw like the Crow, with their LS series. But I guess if it ain't broke...

If it ain't broke, it's time for improvements.

Not my philosophy. Was just stating the obvious. But in this case, the Tuuk Custom+ is a proven product---that's why it lasted so long(and still going strong) before they decided to release the LS
