Steve Sterling Fired on the Island

Recommended Posts

No link yet...they are talking about it in the Intermission on TSN.

And it'll make no difference. Alexei Yashin and Miro Satan on the same team...what are the odds? They might as well sign AlMo and make it a line of guys that play like there's no place they wouldn't rather be. Satan and Mogilny could flank Yashin on the wings.

My thoughts exactly, Fish.

As long as they have those two slobs it doesn't matter (And Kvasha is not much better). Better yet, until Milburry is wouldn't expect much. The fans hate him. They hated Stirling as well. But Mike is the big problem. He seems to have a fear of hiring competent people under him in fear that they will take his job or something

Mike...what can you say about him that hasn't already been said?

Oh man, Kvasha...it's such a shame that there are so many guys out there with so much talent, but waste it away doing nothing with it. In addition to the above mentioned, howabout Dvorak? Hlavac? Fedor? On and on...

Milbury has hired and fired 9 coaches since he's been GM....how in the hell does a GM keep his job with futility like that??????

Because the owner Wang is oblivious.

Mike M is too busy taking care of Chinese kids who came over from China to play a tourny here in Montreal. Nice of Milberry, but when your team is doing terrible he should worry about his job.

Its so easy to poke fun at the Islanders because if they didn't make some of the trades they did, they could have had an all star team there.

Chara, Luongo, Heatly, Jokinan, Bertuzzi, McCabe, Torres, Spezza, etc- Although the Bert trade had to happen.

Heatley was a Thrashers pick, wasn't he? Or was this a pick that was owned by the Isles, traded to the Thrashers?

Heatly was never Islanders property. Berard, on the other hand.

That said, there is only a handful of great players with their original teams.

Remember, until Wang took over, Milbury was operating on very small budgets. Many deals he was forced to make because of the salaries players would have demanded.

Still, his track record speaks for itself and its horrid

Heatley might be wrong, but there was one more big name

Neither was Spezza

I believe Spezza was selected by Ottawa using a traded NYI pick that was part of the Yashin deal.

I see what you mean.

The Isles still had the original pick though- The number 2 spot. That is what I mean. He traded so many picks/ players...He could have had an all star team by now. And that trade was not a product of not having the funds either.

I believe that deal was made the first summer that Wang owned the team and opened up the checkbook a little for Mad Mike.

Chara didn't appear to be developing that well on the Isle and, like they say, you have to give to get and he was part of the Yashin deal.

Jokinen was a similar situation. He didn't seem to be really developing.

The only one I'll give you was Luongo, but it seems that DiPietro is developing into the franchise goaltender that he was projected to be.

Bertuzzi was being pressured into being the next Gillies - the change of scenery did wonders for his game.

Why the hell are we spending time on Shoe Boy and the I-holes anyway...good riddance!

Just my monthly trashing of uninformed comments. And I followed the Isles a bit when Lowell was affiliated a few years back.

Thought you'd enjoy the Shoe Boy dig :)

He was just asking the guy where he bought his shoes. I don't know why everyone else blew it all out of proportion.

lol...It does seem like usually noone gives a damn about what happens on the Island.

Yeah, Bertuzzi would have never developed there.

Dipietro took 5 steps backwards this year for some reason. Maybe because he doesn't seem to take anything seriously or did any high level play during the lockout.

Uninformed comments, chippa? Ha, I watch the majority of Isle games

Let's see. You had Heatly and Spezza as property of the Isles. You blamed Milbury for trading away guys he knew he could no longer afford or who weren't developing anyway or who were players with potential in order to get a bonafide star in the league. I'd say that's missing the boat a little bit.

I didn't really mind the Spezza trade at the time. Jason underperformed in the WJC, lost his #1 ranking (similar situation to Kessel) and had some rumoured attitude problems asking for mutliple trades. Chara was pretty well summed up at the time by Chippa.
