Mod Squad Snowboarding?

Recommended Posts

So i'm taking up a new hobby - snowboarding. I got a board for Christmas and now i'm looking for the rest. Does anybody know of any sites/message boards that have info on boarding gear?

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the responses guys. So i'm assuming here that performance only has to do with your board and boots (and bindings?). Here's what I've got my eye on so far:

Board: Option Signature 154

Boots: Northwave Faktor or Northwave Three

Bindings: Drake Super Sport

In regards to outerwear, my buddies are telling me that anything that's 10000 water-proof and over is good.

Another question, how does changing the angle that you attach your bindings to your board affect your riding? Is it just for comfort?

Any recommendations on gear AND riding tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

That setup is nice, but I wouldnt get Northwave boots. Id look into ThirtyTwo for boots, they are very comfortable and the Northwaves I had felt like bricks on my feet very uncomfortable and heavy.

Heres my Setup:

Nitro Griffin 151 cm Board

DC Phase Boots

Drake Mikey Leblanc Bindings

Edit: As for the angle of the Bindings,it is for your riding style.EX: I ride both Switch and Regular so both of binding are angled the same \ / .

its like hockey, you gotta try stuff on..

i had the luck of working at a 'board shop in NYC, so had access to a lot of stuff but always been a Burton guy..just works for me...but too many good brands out there (Lib Tech, Never Summer, Thirty Two, Forum,) etc..

you'll have fun getting dialed in..most of my 1st season after learning how to link turns was spend adjusting stuff every couple of runs til i found what I liked ..its like finding the right profile, hollow on the skates..

east is mostly ice..so jackets were more like shells..ie ls underarmor type base, thin fleece an then a shell...

yeah anything 10 000mm waterproofing and over is good. my pants are actually only 5000mm but they seem to stay dry.. 10k mm is nice to have on those wet days.

your setup sounds pretty nice. i'd definately try on the boots to see if they're comfy, northwave does make a good product though.

however i'm not a huge fan of drake, but that's just my personal preference and what i've heard about their durability. most of their bindings are pretty stiff (coming from a guy riding really soft bindings for the park) but they might be fine for you, pretty responsive. ride is another company out there for bindings that are good for freeriding. flux, burton, agency are good too. i wouldn't reccomend technine from previous experience.

do you plan to be a park rider eventually?

anyways i'd reccomend a positive front angle with a really mellow back angle or negative. if you have a duck stance like me: ie, the bindings look like this: \ /

it helps you with switch riding but is a little hard on the knees but fine once you get used to it. i wouldn't go that drastic yet thougn in your situation.

anywyas if u have any more questions just ask.

and don't give up!

I've tried out the boots already and they feel pretty comfy. I'm probably going to lean that way.

I was initially thinking about trying a stance like this: | / but now I see how a stance like \ / would help with switch riding so maybe i'll give that a go. About park riding, I haven't thought about that yet since I don't even know if I could make it down a slope without falling every 5 seconds :D

I finally got my snowboard. If you still need gear, I'd highly recomend eBay. I bought my both board and bindings on there for $200.

My set-up:

Smirnoff Pro board (possibly made by Palmer, not sure though)

SP Metalizer bindings

Burton Fader boots

I'm also rocking the | / binding set-up.

Snowboarding's easier than it looks, kind of like hockey ;) It's all about the fun.
