warped steel

Recommended Posts

hey ive been reading alot about people finding out they have warped or bent steel. I am now concerned myself. i have nike flexlite 10's with ls 2's. From what ive gatherened it seems these skates have had problems with warped steel, correct? if so how can i go about checking to see if my blade is messed up? I dont wanna start soundin paranoid but seems like ive been alot more shaky on my skates latly.

thanks alot.

if you have something thats fairly long that you know is straight, (ie. a good ruler) hold it up to either side of the blade and if theres a gap then you know it's warped. if you dont have anything then take it to your LHS, they should have something to check for that sort of thing

Chadd, Does that imply that if the warp can't be detected by sighting down the blade (without using a straight edge), then that degree of warp is insignificant? In other words: If you can't see it without the aid of a straight edge then don't worry about it?

I guess the answer is different for every person. I've been lucky enough to be able to see issues with steel that some people don't seem to feel. I've also seen problems and asked people if they were having issues and had them say "yes..." and go on to explain what I see. I don't see warped steel as much as I see steel that isn't vertical or holders that are mounted straight, but not down the center line of the skate.
