Defending the crease...

Recommended Posts

Hey..

I was just wondering...I see this in the nhl a lot...Defensemen who pushes or crosscheck a forward into the goalie...then the player collides with the goalie taking them out..

Does it make sense for a defencemen to a) Push a player down into crease or B) it is the player who takes advantage of the contact by falling hard on the goalie?

Quite frankly I never understand why a defencemen would do something that could hurt his own goalie...

Any insights?

I think you could argue both points here. We do see a lot of goalie interference calls, but on the other hand there are plenty of dmen that get penalties while in the front of the net.

I'm a d-man and everytime I push a player ontop of the goalie I didn't mean too. Most of the time I find that he just went the other way so I pushed him to make sure he didn't do anything stupid, and he falls on the goalie  and I hate it when forwards coming in to poke the goalie, hit you into your own goalie too
