One Hockey Fly/Phat Training Puck

Recommended Posts

The FLy/Phat pucks glide nice over just about anything, cement, driveways, carpet. It's a nice stick handling training puck. Not for shooting.

These pucks suck!!! I had one for about a week and it shattered into pieces. And I did not use it for shooting.

But, it's good for stickhandling, if you can get for that lasts for a bit.

What is it made out of? How are they different than the other roller hockey pucks you can find?

I have the following:

Smart Hockey Balls

Roller Hockey Puck w/3 small balls embedded to make it roll

Roller Hockey Puck w/smooth plastic nubs all around the outside of the puck

I use them in my garage, which has a smooth floor. All of them work well, but the roller hockey pucks are not weighted correctly. I like the weight and roll of the smart hockey balls, but they're different from a puck.

Since yesterday I tried freezing pucks in my freezer and pulling them out and using them until they thaw out. Works very well for a few minutes... but I'd like to find something that has the right weight, shape and moves well without having to worry about freezing it.

I have really quick hands and practiced with a lot. And after a couple of days, it cracked, than after a few more days, it shattered.

how did it shatter if you didnt shoot. did you drop it?

Good question, I haven't heard of any shattering from just stickhandling. I have a demo one in my store thats been man/kid handled for close to 2 years, including shooting and it's still going strong. I tell you it's hard to resist shooting them, that's where most probs occur.

Maybe they are better than you and I at stick handeling :P I used once and was'nt impressed..on concrete your stick feels like it is on concrete or asphault so I really dont see the point. Back in thr day I used a lght plastic ball to practice stick handeling.....witch is harder to do then a puck...you really had to work on finesse so when you went back to a puck....no problems. :D

for like street hockey ive always jsut used like those hard orange balls because there arent really any pucks that slide well enough, does this one work at like game speed or is it just for like stick handleing in the garage? unless its made from something amazing i dont see how it would slide like on ice

Maybe he has stone hands so whenever he stickhandled the puck, it broke. :P

we have those at the pro shop i work in and i'm not a big fan of 'em. i think on smooth concrete like in a garage they'd work well, but i'd probably just go with a smart ball for stickhandling practice. i guess the (weighted) phatpuck offers something the smart ball doesn't, with the strengthening, but i can't say how much that actually helps.

we saw one or two fall apart really quick too.

golf balls are the best to use if you want to work on your hands. you can barely get a feel and it reacts alot quicker than a puck. just dont shoot it at anyone
