analog999 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2006 Hey, with this thread going about weightlifting, I was just curious if any of you have tried working out to Matt Furey's Combat Conditioning? He is a proponent of the body-weight only approach. He says that you should do many reps with your body weight - specifically the Hindu Squat, Hindu Pushup and the Bridge. I tried last night and I did 100 h squats and 30 h pushups. Difficult stuff. My legs were almost jelly afterward. I didn't try the bridge. His stuff seems simliar to the training Bruce Lee talks about in Jeet Kune Do (and he mentions it in the Combat Conditioning book). Basically the idea is build lots of endurance and stronger muscles that are flexible. Just wanted to know your guy's thoughts.

gman 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2006 Actually I really like the combat conditioning. It does alot more for me than running does because runnng bores me to death so I do not do it. 100/30 are pertty good numbers if you are just starting out. Are your legs sore? The only thing I do not like about Furey is all of his hype. That and I think his stuff is pretty over priced. The info itself is solid though, and the exercises are great. This site has the pushups and squats, just not the bridge.http://www.bronzebowpublishing.com/exercises.html
analog999 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2006 They are a little sore. I probably should do multiple sets. My legs are pretty strong, or so I thought. Furey claims he does hundreds and hundreds. Furey talks at length about how these exercises are so much better for you than lifting weights, and I think I would have to agree. It's not my explosiveness on my take off - it's keeping it up, having very quick feet all the time, etc. Thanks for that site -- I have a wheel but I've never started from that high (always from the knees, which is hard enough). I really like the tiger bend pushup, which must really work out the forearms.

Rustybender 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2006 That wall walk isn't as impressive as it looks. He is walking down, he is not walking back up. Once he gets to the bottom, the gif just replays the frames in reverse to make it look like he is going back up. If you grab individual frames from the way down and the way up they match perfectly. Not say he couldn't go back up if he wanted to, but that particular example is fake. I've tried Matt's stuff off and on and if I ever had a workout routine that I'd stick to it would be combat conditioning. The first time I did hindu squats I did 25 and could barely walk for the next 3 days. Did I mention how out of shape I am? At best I can hold a bridge for 15 seconds, and my hindu pushups are just horrible. I did pickup Combat Abs and eventually want combat stretching.
