Shops in MSP

Recommended Posts

I'll be attending a training seminar in Minneapolis-St Paul in April. After 4 I'm free and want to go the MOA. Are there any good Hockey shops in there? I'm staying @ the White Bear Country Inn. Any shops or rinks near there?

I don't know what MOA is, but Dave's Sport Shop in Fridley is a really good shop. I don't know how far it is from White Bear though, but I think it's less than 30 minutes. Otherwise Letterman's in Blaine has a pretty good selection as well. I haven't been to the area for a while so I don't know how far each is.

Free transport to and from so I don't know if I'll be able to get out withour renting a car. Getting tix to see the Wild vs Hawks as part of the deal.

Strauss Skates in Maplewood is fairly close to your hotel. I haven't been there in years, but they used to have a very good reputation. Hockey Giant is near the MOA (not necessarily a good thing, but it's there if you need it - it's like walking into the internet). There are rinks near both your hotel (Aldrich Arena) and the MOA (Bloomington Ice Garden, Richfield Arena). May I offer a suggestion? Obviously, I don't know what you like to do in your spare time - but, the MOA is really nothing special. Have you ever been to a mall? It's like that, but bigger, and with bad amusement park rides. And thousands of mostly stupid people. I tend to avoid malls altogether, but that's my take on it. Xcel is a great place to see hockey, so enjoy the Wild game.

Also, I must agree with Ambro. Dave's Sport Shop is nice - it was my LHS as a kid.

Thanks for the info. I'll probably pack my skates and see how things work out.

I actually live in White Bear Lake. There is a shop located in WBL called Zappa's Sporting Goods but it is not up to par with Dave's in Fridley or Strauss in Maplewood. There is a place in Bloomington (where MOA is located) called Westwood Sports I believe, which is a nice place. That's about all I can think of right now.

if you have time to come back south to Apple Valley, come see me at Westwood sports. we have another (our origional) in Bloomington which is closer to where you are, but i work at the AV one. the one in AV is about 10 mins south of the MOA.
