Shipping to the UK

Recommended Posts

I'm not to sure if this is the right place to put this, but none of the others did either. So here goes, i live in Nottingham, England and all the equipment around here is extremely exspensive £198 for Vapour xx gloves. So i am looking to once again buy from America or Canada again. However shipping and taxes always seem to add a large chunk of money on to the bill (experiences with skates). So have you got any suggestions into how i could reduce the cost of shipping or any other methods of getting gloves?

Thanks in advance,

ollie

Ask them to ship either Airmail Letter Post for the gloves (as long as the package is less than 24" long and 36" in total girth), or Airmail Parcel Post for larger items.

Also, have the package marked as a "Gift" with low value.

By doing that you can't insure the package for full value so it's a bit of a risk.

Ollie the only way to reliably beat the taxman is to get your package marked as samples. Samples can be imported tax free. I've also found that if the package is marked in corporate colours, preprinted boxes company tape etc you are much more likely to be charged.

I have never been charged for any packages from the US which are in fairly plain packages.

hope it helps

Tom

Ollie, I am from Ireland, but living here now. What you can do, if you have someone here you can have stuff initially sent to is have them mail it to you, as certified mail, so it gets a guaranteed delivery, but have them mark, "returning shoes left on vacation" on the customs declaration.

You have to mark the price as $30 or $40 or something low, but I have been delivering the christmas presents to the family this way for 4 years now, after being hit with $110 VAT the first time we tried to send stuff.

Its risky in that if they get lost you lose some cash, but like I say, if its certified, you should be fine.

I haven't had anything lost yet

Just use EPuck! I got hit with £21 import duties on my HS22 visor, a mouth guard & other buts but overall it still worked out about right.

Or of course go down the 'Gift' / 'Sample' route...had some skates converted from ice to roller by a guy I found in NC who shipped them over as a gift...if only people really gave me presents like that!

That's partially true. I don't know why but you can't insure Airmail Letter Post.

However, Airmail Parcel Post can be insured and is somewhat easier for the shipper since it can be processed online. That also sends an email with the tracking information to the recipient.

the only problem is if the store shipping the stuff marks it as a sample and its found to not be a sample that store can get with some penalties from what ive heard
