Custom Molds for Composite Sticks

Recommended Posts

i know that composite molds are very pricey and ive heard a range of prices from 3k all the way to 20k. my question is if a player requires a company to make a mold for him, does the company bill the player for the mold or do they eat the cost? i realize there are many players that use the same mold but what if soemone wants something really strange no one else uses?

Custom molds cost hundreds and not thousands. The vendors we use charge us between $300 - $500 per mold. We eat the mold cost, but make a little of it back when the team buys sticks or blades for the player.

We do evaluate each request for a custom curve and make sure it's in our best interest to make the mold. It's not always a one-step process. Sometimes you have to make a couple of molds to get the blade correct. There are also those players that like to change curves. We have some player that have 3 or 4 molds.

Some companies offer custom blades at as low as 45$ a piece so you figure that even at a minimum order of 12 blades those kind of molds can´t be too expensive. But from what I take there´s a difference between temporary molds and solid molds as well I would assume molds for monocomp or true one piece sticks will be more ecpensive than molds for blades (and fused ops)

I doubt any OEM is building Pro sticks or blades in "hard" tooling. You can build a Uni-Mold / Mono-Comp mold just fine with "soft" tooling at a fraction of the cost of a metal mold.

Mikeo: Do you think it's only a matter of time before Mission offers Custom molds, via temporary molds, for retail? (ala MIA Inferno)

IMO it's a natural evolution of the market, and something most of the big companies sooner or later will pursuit in search of a bigger share of the cake/franklins/dope/money/$$$$$$$....

As most know, any voxpop would tell the obvious desire for custom OPS or composite RB's.

custom curves could wreck the economy of scale. Making a lot of one model is cheaper than making a few of a number of different models.

It would depend on who the player is.

I would beg to differ.

My bad. I just couldn't imagine that a company like Easton would do the same thing for a player being shuttled between the AHL and NHL as they would for a recognizable "regular" NHL player.

This isn't a mold issue; it is an issue with how many SKUs they want to carry and what does/doesn't sell. The color in a nylon-type part is pigment (color) only.

It isn't a mold issue, but that was an example for.......

Making a lot of one model is cheaper than making a few of a number of different models.

comprende?

how much would it cost to get a blade clone on a different brand of 1piece?  would you have to buy 10 or something?    i.e. a sakic clone on a vapor...

Get the Naslund. It´s almost identical to the Sakic. In general, though minimun custom orders are 12.

Most likely no.
