And I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong FireOnIce...It's nto that we don't believe he is a hella good hockey player (he's in the NHL for cryin out loud), it's just that there was SOO much hype about him before he even played a single pro game. Everyone paraded around about how much of an all-star he is and how he is already being compared to Gretzky. When he starts putting up ALL_STAR numbers and actually SHOWING what he can do, opinions will probably change. Till then, the talk is all talk and very little action.

He's 18. Putting up over a point per game in the NHL. That is just unbelievable. Those are all star numbers, especially for a rookie. How he is not showing what he can do, to you, is beyond me. Have you even watched 5 Pittsburgh games this year (not that you'd want to)?

He didn't produce the hype either, the media did. If your only gripe is with that, your discouragement is pretty unfounded. It's not like pops called TSN up and said hey, let's do a feature on my kid. He's just a ridiculous hockey player, and the media (especially in Canada, where hockey is prevalent) loves that. Lets get serious here.

I admitted that he is a hell of a good player. And I have actually watched like 15 of the Pens games and what he is doing at the age of 18 is outstanding. I also know that it was indeed the media that was causing all the hype over him, but lets face it, he is NOT (now) Gretzky like I was hearing all day everyday. Sure he's got the POTENTIAL to get to that level, but he is NOT there YET. Give him time. Thats all that I'm saying is.

And if my gripe is unfounded, think of a little kid that just learned how to whistle and is constantly portraying his new-found ability to the world during his every waking moment. It gets annoying real quick.

Or think of this one...those annoying commercials on TV that are liuke 10-15 seconds long that occasionally run 3 times straight, then you change the channel out of irritation only to find the exact samething on the next 2 channels.
