complete pants VS. Girdle/ shell

What are some factors that lead a player to choose a Girdle/Shell system over the traditional complete pants set up.

Any advantages or disadvantages for either?? Or does it all come down to personal preference

Girdles fit tighter but have less protection.

At least that's what I think.

Not any more they're not... New pants are incredibly lightweight.

I cut the soft parts out of my shin guards and helmet. You would not believe how light they are!
