A wood stick is best for a beginner. Since you are a beginner, you will have to experement with different blade patterns (curve and lie) in order to find out what works best for you. It is much cheaper to experiment with blade patterns when using woodies. Also, it is better to learn how to stickhandle, shoot, pass, and recieve passes with a wooden stick. Composite blades are very stiff and bouncy and can make stickhandling and recieving passes seem harder for a beginner. Wooden blades offer better feel for the puck and they absorb some of the impact of a hard pass.
