Vapor XXX Skates

My XXX's are on the way. I won't be able to get near a skate oven for a while. Is there anything else that I can do to help break them in other than skating in them?

Would soaking my socks in warm water and then lacing the skates really tight be okay?

ps. How long and at what temperature should the XXX's be baked?
