bauer 8090's vs grafs

Recommended Posts

I just ordered a pair of bauer 8090's to replace my old graf 709's. Can anyone tell me how tough of a transition this is going to be? How do these skates compare?

I know that you should be good in the width department. 8090's are bauers wider skate so they will be good for you comming from 709's.

Grafs are a little bit higher in the heels than bauers are so your going to feel less on your toes and more on your heels when first skating on them. other than that it will just take a few skates to get used to them.

good luck and enjoy !

depending how old your 709's were you're going to feel a huge difference in the stiffness. I could barely stay vertical the first couple skates with my 8090's coming from Classic Golds

I though that the 8090's would be alot stiffer than the 709s

that's what i meant in my post, sorry if that didn' come across very clear

A friend of mine who is a store manager at one of my old LHS gave me a good analagy about the two skates when I took them to him to see if there was something wrong with them;

Classic Gold --> like a Cadallac, built for cushion and comfort

8090 --> like a Ferrari, built for speed and agility

I had CGs for a few weeks and now have 8090s (also had 609s in the past). The 8090s might be the most comfy skates I have had. I never baked them and I have NEVER had pain of any kind from day one. This includes my 1st skate in them. I think this may have been Bauer's perfect skate. Weight of a Vapor and fit/ durability of a Supreme.

I second that my son.

Oh, I totally agree, when I first slipped on my 8090's I couldn't believe how perfect they fit.

The only thing that caught me off guard was the stiffness, It seemed like when I turned my foot in the slightest the skate moved, it's kind of hard to explain....

I know what you mean, but I found it to be more of a "firmness" as the word stiff seems like it does not have any give to it. I find the 8090 boot to "return" when I put flex/ energy into it. Nice.

the tuuks will make you feel like you are more leaned back as compared to the cobras which have a more forward lean

I have skated on both the 709s and the 8090 ( i used a friends old pair to see if i liked them before i bought) they were extremely comfortable, the 8090s fit my foot better, and were lighter but i found the biggest difference was in the holders and the steel.
