Cutting Into the Taper

I was curious to know whether or not cutting above the fuse point will negatively effect your shot or impact of a tapered shaft/blade combo. I remember when I cut my Pro 1100, that I had to cut up higher than the blade to avoid the tenon. As well when I cut an Xn10, I used a metal object to determine where to cut. Does it still keep the effect of the tapered shaft, or does it basically become a standard with limited blade selection?

It slightly looses the effect of having a tapered shaft because you're loosing the taper by cutting higher. It doesn't mean that it's not a tapered shaft though.

You only shorten the taper a bit, no major difference.

it might make it a bit too wide for a tapered blade then. if you cut a bit high, just slack some tape on the blade tennon.

When I cut my XN10, I cut it about an eighth of an inch higher then the fuse point. I then used a screwdriver, file and a hammer to pound out the rest of the tenon. Worked like a charm and its one hell of a shaft now.
