Anybody skate in Super Tacks

Recommended Posts

I'm in the market for a new pair of skates. Looking at CCM Super Tack line. Can anybody tell me the main difference between the pro, 992, and 892 tacks? I'm just playing in a rec league, but I don't mind spending the money for something that is going to last a long time and offer the best protection. But also, I do not want to completely waste money buying something that is way too much on what I need. A local shop also has some 952 and 852 left that I'm considering. Any help or suggestions.

As I think most of our hockey brothers and sisters on this site would say ....Get what fits you best

Try them all on

Bingo..

Go with whatever fits best at your LHS. This way, you get the skate you want, you get it baked and if anything goes wrong, you dont have to talk to some CS rep that doesn't want to hear your problems, much less send you a new skate.

fit is always #1 priority. The 952 will fit different than the 852.. see which one fits best.

Obviously fit is the clencher for a new pair, but I've been skating on 852's for about 2 and a half years (2-3 times per week, on average) and the boot has held up really well. The ankle support is still as strong as the day I took them out of the box. I slap a little pro-toe on every three to four months to keep the toes from fraying and everything's good. They've been great skates for me.

Thanks for the quick responses. How each skate feels on my foot is the deciding factor. However, if 2 or more models feel equally good, what are some other factors in the super tack line that could help me make my decision?

I haven't looked into it, but from the great skate catalogue pics it looks like the 892's have the heel lock feature, while the ProTacks don't. Maybe someone can confirm/deny this.

I would choose the 952's over the 992's personally, because I hate the lace lock feature. I have 952's now and after some adjustments (superfeet, a little punching) I really like them. I had Vapor 5s before, and with the tacks I feel much closer to the ice, and I think my skatings improved.

Ok I my PP is the older models of tacks. The 2004 model line with the pro lite is really good and the best looking tacks ever. The main diff between 892 and 992 is the stiffness. If you are playing rec league I would say go for the 992. :) PS: These are great skates and you won't be dissapointed with them.

Any of those higher end Tacks will last you years, playing in your rec league. I can only say, great skates! Go for them if they fit your foot.

I have the pro's, never skated in the 852/952, but a guy on my team has had the 852's for a couple years and he swears by them, so if either one fits your foot, I'm sure you'll be good to go.
