I agree. Last game, when Meyer got called for hooking? That was pathetic. He had ONE hand on his stick, and it was right under the arm. Okay, it was hooking, but the dive Afineganov pulled was embarrassing. He looked like Darcy Tucker for an instant.

I agree with Niittymaki30 though. Refs are working scared, and it is hurting the playoffs. The Flyers played seven, I repeat seven minutes of full strength hockey in Game 2. How is it supposed to be exciting if you are worried about touching a guy? It's getting ridiculous. The regular season was fine. Sure there were calls that were questionable, but that goes with any season. Now that the playoffs have come upon us, refs are calling everything that wasn't a penalty in the regular season.

Look guys, my main point aside from my being a flyers fan, was that Bettman is scaring the officials, and telling them that they won't work unless everything is called, and I don't agree with that. You shouldn't put fear into them, just let them do your job. That would be like your boss coming up to you and giving you a 500 page report that he just read, and telling you to proofread it, and if you miss ONE mistake, just ONE, you are fired. That is bullshit, and Bettman shouldn't be doing that.

The problem is, near the end of the season, officials were making awful calls and non-calls, and completely underminded the rules of the New NHL (Which for the record, with the exception of the Delay of Game rule, I think are great.). A lot of questions were raised not just on this board but by players and coaches on how the playoffs were going to be officiated and Bettman made a statement. I don't like him overall as a commish but I really think he did the right thing by making it known that officials would be held accountable for their actions in the post-season. Many times everyone wonders if there are any consequences for dumb calls, now we know.....kinda.

Look what happens when the Flyers play defense. 4-2 Win. They may not be as fast as buffalo, but they are more physical, and Buffalo can not function when they are forced to the corners, where the flyers beat the Sabres up. The officiating was better tonight, I will say, even though more Flyers penalties were called. They were ligit, and I have no problem with that.
