puck to the head

Recommended Posts

I got hit in the face with a stick at open hockey. The idiot couldn't skate so he just stood by his own net. I came in and took a shot. It deflected off the goalie and he went to try and bat it out of the air and hit me in the face. Just caught my lip. Loosened one of my teeth and cut my lip pretty good.

Just in case anyones not familiar with the berard story http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bryan_Berard One thing they didnt mention that i read somewhere was that his eye is preety much worthless and he was just going to have it replaced with a glass one but was required by the nhl to have vision in both or he could not play so he had a bunch of surgery done on it and all he can really see is shapes and shadows.

I took a puck to the side of my face, just below my temple in a game about a month ago. Luckily I was playing inline at the time, so not as bad as it could have been.

I didn't catch a puck, but I was going in to the boards trying to beat the defenseman for the puck and rather than playing me or the puck, he trapped my stick and sent me flying face first into the glass. Good think I was wearing a cage! It's very disorienting when one minute you're crossing the goal line and the next your face is bouncing of the glass. The hinges broke and I had concussion that fortunately only lasted 10 days. Especially since this was my 3rd or 4th and with the last one I dealt with post-concussion syndrome for almost a year and a half.

I've had several cuts from the glass, sticks and pucks. The bridge of my nose, both eyebrows a couple of times, lip, chin, cheekbone and forehead.

The scariest one was when a goalie swung his stick at a rebound that just bounced up in front of him. I caught the tip of his goal stick flush across my eye. It hit the edge of my nose and the outside of my orbital bone near the eyebrow. A millimetre or two either way would have been messy. That was with a full sized half visor on, not one of the skinny ones. The stick came up so fast!

I don't bother with a visor any more. I got a stick under the visor that cut me pretty nicely, and then the guy yanked the stick out. I can't win. :(

Oh the good ole hockey game...

I can contribute to the broken bone and other injury tales but not too many pucks in the head...luckily.

A small knick here and there, but nothing worth posting.

BUT....

I did see a great dental accident before. Both front teeth. Ouch.

lucky that one didnt catch you in the beak....would have felt great.

first game with a visor on in Jr hockey, I tipped a shot in front of the net into my chin...got that glued shut and next shift got cross checked in the mouth and broke the front two teeth in half and knocked another out...

Best i ever saw was one night in High school we used to go sneak on the ice and skate from like 10-2 AM, my buddy was getting ready to go to Midget AAA nattys, and we were skating around, he was skating in, fired one off the crossbar came back right into his eye....HILARIOUS

The part about the coach sitting on the bench made me piss myself laughing. I can just picture the guy gushing blood. For some reason coaches bleeding is funny to me.

Edge: Although you didn't get hurt too bad, you will go down in infamy. Every LHS and rink I go to EVERYONE knows about the U16 National Kid smashing the glass!!!

Rock on.

Not too bad of an injury, especially by everybody else's stories, but this was wierd and still hurt a bit:

At drop-in, I block a shot in the right circle and it deflects off of my shaft and hits the top of my front teeth and bottom of my nose. Kinda stunned me a bit and had to leave the ice a few minutes later because I was choking on the clotted blood drainage from my nose, but no big deal. A few weeks later, having still not learned my lesson of not wearing a mouthgard, I block a shot from the same skater, same deflection off of the same stick, in the exact same spot of the ice. Except this time it hit me in the bottom of my upper teeth, top of my lower teeth, and lower gums. I got a nasty cut from the puck and my teeth sandwiching my lower lip area, but the teeth did not quite go all the way through my lip. I badly chipped my two front teeth, exposing the root on the right one. Both teeth were pretty much gone, but it didn't look as bad from the front as it did from the back of my teeth. Some of the worst pain I've had was that root being exposed, as I really couldn't eat, drink, or breathe in deeply. I tried to brush my teeth once and just about went through the roof. I was lucky that my dentist could fit me in within the following two days to get them repaired, but working the retail floor was a bit awkward with a half-moon for teeth and the wierd faces I had to make in order just to talk normal.
