9k skates with ls2 problems

Recommended Posts

i got the 9k skates, and they are great, i kept the rbk blades/holders on them for 4 or 5 skates. then a friend of mine that works at a lhs said he could put some ls2's on them for $25, knowing that this is a good deal i agreed. when i look at the blades, it looks like of of them is warped, i look from different angles, and some look like its warped, and some dont. and i was just wodnering a few things:

-if it is warped is it a big deal(will it cause problems with my skating)

- if i dont bring them to get fixed, will the warp get bigger

- and how will they get fixed, do they somehow bend them back, or do they just put new blades on?

any help would be greatly appreciated

Depends on why the steel is warped. If it's because of a bad mounting, it won't get better until the mounting is fixed.

I hate to preach.... but folks...don't F with holders. Just use the ones that come with the skates. You are just asking for trouble. This post is a PERFECT example.

Now the solution is to have someone who knows what they are doing, remount the holder without torqeing it. They mounted the holder wrong plain and simple.

i would never use the stock holder just because thats what comes with it. if i'm comfortable with a type of holder(tuuks and t'blades i both like) i will put them on whatever boot fits me best. for example my current grafs, since i bought them i thought i'd give the nt-3000s a try, all season i couldnt wait to get rid of them, i will never use cobras again. if you go to somebody that knows what theyre doing there will be no problems.

That's the problem, not many know what they are doing so the MAJORITY end up with problems. The best way to put different holders on a skate is to start with a skate that has not had a holder mounted on it. Rare unless you order it that way. All I'm saying is I see folks all the time changing holders for no real reason other than looks. Unless virgin holes are drilled for each rivit, you most likely will have problems.

Just have someone who is skilled with skates do them, I had mine done through the hartford wolfpack and my tuuks are perfect on my grafs.

No, the steel bends easy. The problem is that when the holder is mounted, if the installer torques it, meaning mounts the front and then the rear just slightly off center, then the holder will have a slight bend in it. So when the steel is installed, it will take whatever bend the holder has. Usually, the installer cheats are tries to use exhisting holes, rather than drilling new ones or filling old ones, that's how it happens. Also, if when installing the rivets, they are not alternated, front/back, left/right, torquing can occur. I use a straight edge to check steel after each rivet is installed. One last way is that if a new hole is drilled next to an old hole, basically making the old hole bigger, the holder will shift after skating on it and a bend will occur.
