Did you ever have a "click" moment

Recommended Posts

My 'click' was this season, im 16, been playin since i was 5, and for the tier i have been playing at, i was always considered good, captain and getting a point a game. But this year, It just all came together, i could now shoot, playmake as well as the skating which i had previously relied on. End of the season now looking back i more then doubled my best seasons top points. But after the click, i became complaicent, did less off-ice exercise, and as a result i have poor games and a bad run in to the end of the season.

Which goes to show, even if you do have that 'click', it should be encouragment to do more, cause these clicks may come at anytime. You can always improve, and a 'click' being a good sign that its coming together!

Click moments.

I think we've all had games, where it seems that we just see the ice better. It's hard to explain, but the best way I can describe it is "having a sixth sense." It feels like you can anticipate the play...thread the needle on passes...and there's glue on your blade.

Those are the games that keep me coming back.

and then there is the ever dreaded opposite...when nothing goes right, you feel like your hands are made of cement, there is lead in your skates and your skates have no edge. You sit on the bench shaking your head and wonder why you even bothered to get dressed....but those are also the games that keep you coming back...

My beer league game last week.

Only in my 2nd season of organized play and I was never a good puck handler. I bought a Smart Hockey stick handling ball 3 weeks ago and fiddled with it in my living room, handling back and forth as fast as i could. Was even able to handle it confidently without watching it. Then in my game last week, it all just sort of fell into place. I was doing end to end rushes beating opposing players while carrying the puck for the first time in my life. I went back to the bench amazed and confident I could keep doing it. Even my team mates noted my improved puck handling. We lost that game but I contributed on 3 out of our 4 goals scored and now lead my team in points!

I love my smart hockey ball!

In my 4on 4 inline league, I've always stayed back as the deep d man, scooping up the cleared ball. I had 3 points 2/3s of the way through the season. My click moment came in a game where I was shifted up to the forecheck. We kept the ball in, the pressure on, and won the game. For the rest of the year, in addition to having more fun, I was forcing a lot of turnovers, and as a result getting a lot of assists along with a few goals, including a hat trick two weeks later.

A related moment came a few weeks after the hat. A friend plays on one of the other teams, and told me later my name came up during their pregame huddle as a threat to watch for , which as a 37 yr old playing against 20 somethings, I took as pretty high praise.

Let's face it, it's often the little things that mean the most...

Best click moments come when you least expect it. My first was skating backwards(inline). Then i progressed my wrist-shot when i was about 11 enough where i was able to shoot from the center and score. 2 years later my slapshot. At 13 i started playing ice. 5 practices pre-season then all games. I was the worst kid out there. By the end of the season i scored a couple goals. Second season while still playing inline I was the best on my team passing guys who i thought were amazing in my first season.

Play and love the game is all you can do.
