cutting OPS for Oggie Ergo...

Recommended Posts

The Oggie Grips have more flex than any standard wood or composite endplug. Standard Wood and composite plugs really have no flex at all.

If you put a standard straight endplug on a 100 flex stick that has been cut, the flex will be well over 100 depending on the brand. If you do the same with an Oggie and it will still be in the same range as the original flex that you started with. We here at Oggie are working on the proof and it will be issued soon. Stay tuned.

The Classic grips have the same flex (slightly whippier than the Ergo because of the extra length) that we used to design them.

And practice is the only thing that's going to make you hit the side of a barn. The grip just may help you to get a little closer to it.....

It simply makes that big of a difference. As well my son uses one, he is a Atom player. It made his stick handling and shooting intstantly better. INSTANTLY!!! Because it FORCES a player to hold his top hand properly and firmly... This WILL BE better stickhandlers and shooters because of this product and that is a FACT.

So, how does this work for the rectangular Oggie Grip? Why would it be any different than a regular shaft?

He probably was referring to the Ergo grip.

Hey even if it doesn't add the flex, it's still worth a try because it feels so comfortable in your hands -- plus it makes it much easier to play with one hand (poke checking/or just raising your stick using your wrist). A good way to test the flexing ability of the oggie is by putting it on a stiff shaft. I put mine on a XS xn10 shaft and I could feel more flex than usual even after cutting it.

btw, oggie -- are there any retailers in Toronto that carry it other than Majer Hockey?

What size oggie grip will a Int. stick take? I'm thinking it would be a jr. size grip, but I wanted to be sure.

Senior Oggies fit senior sticks, while Junior Oggies fit intermediate and junior sticks (but not pee wee sticks).

There goes that Rule 7 violation again

Based on discussions I've had with the Mods, I think you may be misunderstanding Rule 7. I've been told it is okay for a manufacturer to respond to questions that pertain to their products.

"Which manufacturer offers red practice jerseys." "We do." versus "You guys should take a look at our red practice jerseys. They're way better than A, B and C's."

I just put an oggie ergo grip into a 85 flex synthesis shaft and I can tell you that the flex of the shaft stayed exactly the same as it was before. The grip feels AWESOME!! I will put up a review when I have used it a little more.

Joe called me this week while on vacation, so I don't know when he'd be able to answer you.

Outside of the tennon, the difference between a junior and senior grip is virtually indistinguishable, if there is indeed a difference. The knob nearest to the tennon appears to be larger on the senior, but I can't tell if the actual grip part is larger. Consequently, what might be the only way to enlarge the grip would be to do what Joe suggests to people with large hands -- add a layer or two of tape.

So I have used the Oggie Ergo Grip for three two hour sessions and I have to say that I am very happy with it. Previously I was using Powerflex tape on my butt end. My problem with that was, it got way to tacky. When I first put it on I literally couldn't get my hand off the stick without twisting and pulling. It would leave some kind of residue on my palms and I had to retape the stick every three or four ice times. I was looking for a solution where I didnt have to retape ever and wouldn't leave any "gunk" on my gloves palms. As far as the shape of the handle, it is a little strange at first. I have small hands so the idea of the Oggie being smaller was appealing, but using a thicker grip for so long, it was a bit of an adjustment, but now I really like it. I always found myself searching for a comfortable spot for my top hand previously but that is gone now. As far as stick handling and passing, it is the same as anything else. I also found that the flex wasn't affected at all. Now as far as shooting goes I have never been a slapshot kinda guy. I hurt my shoulder a few years back so I stopped taking slappers and worked on my wrist shot. Every once in a while I will wind up and take one but not too often. I did notice that with this handle I was able to get a good shot off. As far as wrist shots or backhanders go it didn't affect it either way. But I do feel more comfortable while shooting because of this grip I have now. Just so everyone knows I use Eagle x70 gloves Easton Synergy II grip 85 flex with a Easton Synergy II blade Forsberg pattern. Shoot me any questions if you want too. I am extremely happy with this grip.

Joe, is there a way to get Sr. Sized oggiegrip's but the tennon is smaller so it will fit in a int. shaft?

I think the jr one will work in intermediate shafts.

He wanted me to put one in my Flyweight. I was down til I heard I had to cut it...lol that's like cutting off...well you know...

Yes, junior grips fit intermediate and junior shafts.

see that's the whole reason i started the thread. i don't want to cut my adrenaline down and insert the oggie to find the six inches cut increased my stick's stiffness. the regular stiffness is as high as i would go.

Based on what you've written, I think I didn't explain it properly earlier.

Let's say you use an 85 flex and cut off six inches for the Oggie Grip. Maybe that changes the flex to a 92, but putting the Oggie into the stick brings it back into the 85 range -- possibly lower -- because of the built-in flex.

Maybe this will help you.......http://hockey.philbricks.net/page.htm?PG=nike_bauer_stick

Wow, that's interesting information because, even without putting an Oggie Grip on, I cut off nearly six inches. According to the chart, that means my 80 flex is actually approaching a 100 flex. Throw in another six inches for the grip and I'm probably approaching a 120 flex, but as I've said, the grip effectively brings the flex back down.

You are telling me you lopped a foot off an 80 flex stick and restored 40 flex by putting an oggie grip on?

That's a tough one to swallow. Sorry, dude.

No, I meant that I normally cut almost six inches off my sticks, which apparently makes my 80 flex approach 100 flex. Then I cut another six inches to put an Oggie Grip on, and the only difference I noticed between the stick with the grip and the already shortened stick was I had harder shots after adding the grip.

In other words, with or without the grip, it seems like I'm effectively using a 100 flex stick because of how short it's cut.

okay got my winnwell g500 and my oggie ergo today. i'll have a game tomorrow to test out both and give some opinion. I cut about 5 inches off since i'd normally hold the end of the stick in my palm. I got a 77 flex too so i'll see overall how the stick flexes on the ice.

tested out the ergo yesterday. started with a 320 flex stick (77 flex). cut it down 7 inches, which according to bauer's graph would be well over 100flex. inserted the oggie and I can tell you that the flex was definitely restored. I love my new whippy stick.

As for the oggie itself, I though it provided great grip. A nice bonus for me was the extra length it gave my stick. Normally I held the stick with the butt end in my palm. With the oggie I hold it like a handle which then extends my reach. I find the ergo to make holding the stick much more natural. Best part is probably the fact that I won't be ruining my palms as much anymore.

In case anyone want's to know the Winwell g500 is the best stick i've used to date IMO. I've used synergy's (not SL's or ST's), stealth, and an adrenaline. This stick is definetly a Bauer XXX and a true one piece on top of that. The feel of the puck surpasses my adrenaline. The only thing i'm not sure yet is how well it cushions the puck from hard passes. I'll see after a few more games. As for shooting it's hard to tell since i'm using a whip flex which i think is much more suited for me. I'm shooting better but who's to say that any other stick with the same flex wouldn't do the same.
