Hockey in Richmond VA

Recommended Posts

There's a good chance that I will be working in Richmond VA for awhile.

What's the Adult Hockey scene like down there?

I play just about every day here between leagues and classes and open hockey and would like to keep that up. I'd even be willing to drive an hour or more to make it happen.

I've found a few web sites and it seems promising, but nothing beats first hand experience.

Thanks!

hmmm....

Hadn't really thought about roller since I've never played and there's enough ice around here to satisfy me.

Thanks!

70 miles or so according to Expedia.

One thing that Richmond has going for it is the number of major highways that go in and out of it. So hopefully even if there's something a bit aways it will still be relatively easy/quick to get to. Driving an hour on a 4 lane interstate is easy.

I tried to find an online mileage chart for Richmond but couldn't. Heck, even Norfolk doesn't seem too bad. But then again, I live where we have paved roads and "indoor outhouses". Can't say what its like on the other side of the ol' Mason Dixon.

:P

i live in charlottesville. There is 2 adult leagues diring the summer, adult a(pretty competitive), and adult b(not as competitive). I am pretty sure there is pick up at 6:30 friday mornings, and there is pick up Wednesday during lunch hour. There is 2 stick and pucks a week, wednesdays from 4:50 to 5:50 PM, and Friday, same times.

Charlottesville is about an hour away from richmond. there is only one rink, the Charlottesville ice park at the west end of the downtown mall.

Who is your friend? I might know them.

Edit: It is not a hard drive either. It is just up 64.

In Short Pump(15 min or so) there is a Skatenation Plus, which i am pretty sure has two rinks. The Richmond Royals play there.

I used to be the Operations manager about a year ago at the Fredericksburg ice Park. Depending on what part of richmond you are staying in, the rink is about 45 min from you. It s right off I-95 at exit 130. They play on Sunday nights and it is a great group of guys. Skill level varries, but if you are looking for a league to get a decient skate in and have a beer or two afterwards, I would reccomend that league. the times aren't that bad eaither for Adult hockey in the area. The website is www.fipskate.com

The Skatenation at short pump shut down one of their sheets about a year ago. The land is worth too much and the owners sold one side and may shut down the other at some point if the price is right
