gavin 0 Report post Posted June 18, 2006 I watched a Division A summer league game, mostly CIS/ECHL/AHL/NCAA guys back for the summer break, and they were VERY competetive and they really got into it, playing hard and whatnot. but there was NO fighting and NO chippy stuff, only 2 penalties and there were stupid "tripping" or "interference" calls. Chadd 916 Report post Posted June 19, 2006 Sorry Otto, my plane didn't land until 8:30. It's hard to make those 8 o'clock games on the other side of town. Dave said he recruited the subs for next season. Chadd we didn't do too badly: on Wednesday night we played with 8 skaters and managed a 3-2 win. Last night we had 10 skaters and tied 5-5, could have been a win though. Had a 5-on-3 for the last 61 secs of the game but couldn't score.Talk to me later about the subs. One is OK, the other's a meathead who is the main reason we tied instead of winning last night. Took 5 minor penalties. Give me a call when you have time. I talked to Dave after the game Wednesday but not Thursday.
berndog 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2006 In My beer league if you drop the gloves and fight it is a 1 YEAR suspension. Very few fights in the league. There are situations where guys tossees a couple of lite rabbit punches and some face washing but no real glove dropping sessions. I did happen once last year and both guys are gone for the next session as it was at the end of the Year. The league had a problem in the past and got real tough on it and it cleaned up. We tried a similar suspension length in our league but we found that many of the refs refused to call anything a fight because they didn't want to be the reason a guy was suspended for a year. By lowering the intial penalty and following up with more harsh suspensions for repeat offenders it has helped quite a bit.

Last time I had one of yours was 4/26, I've been pretty busy lately. I skate better than both of the guys you had last week. ;)
berndog 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2006 Hi ChadYour right there are minor fights, that was the rabbit punching I was talking about, and the penalties that get called are roughing. But if it turns into a full blown fight they are out for the year. It is a good way to get ride of the idiots who actually think they are going to still get a crack at the show. The league I play in is great not many penalties and no "real" fights. But you are right the refs are reluctant to call a minor fight a fight.
