Rinkrats Hornet Wheels Chunking

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I just got a new set of Rinkrat Hornets wheels and after two games, a wheel has chunked in half sometime during both of the games. Its getting frustating because these are brand new wheels too. I've been told that these are one of the best wheels out there, but so far its been a gong show. What can I do about these wheels? Is there some sort of warranty or...? I don't want to spend a fortune in buying new wheels as I just got this set, and its been three games with them. I'm 5'9 and 160lbs so I can't be that hard on my wheels.

My experience....buy new wheels. I had some MB816's crack on me.....3 to be exact. Contacted Mike...Mike was great about getting back to me but I never received any replacements.

You'd be better off buying a new set than relying on Mike to replace them.

This isn't a knock on Mike....I'm sure he's busy enough without having to worry about everyone on this board.

Rink Rats are the best wheel I've found.

That may be true in your case, and Im sorry you had that experiance with them...But Id try to get a hold of them first before I bought new ones Ive know lots of people who had a wheel or wheels mess up and got new ones pretty fast maybe like you said they were just busy when you treid to get them...But Id at least give them a shout before I spent money on new ones....I know 100% they will replace them Im sure there are others here who have had replacements...

Hey Guys, Its Michael (gong show ) Hunt here!

All kidding aside, We have corrected the hub issues and moving forward the wheels will be as bullet proof as humanly possible. With that being said I'm sure there are still some old style hornets floating around and it sounds to me like you were unlucky enough to get them. Send an email to sales@rinkrat.com and we will replace the wheels for you. Krog, same deal buddy, you must have been lost in the mix and for that I apolagize. I will get you out a set as well!!

Just for the record guys I will be offline for the better part of 7 weeks here.

I'm in Korea, then we have the Torhs/ Narch/ Statewars Nationals coming up. I will be at all 3 events this year..So if you need to chat with me please come to the booth and we can chat...If you have problems with the wheels come and see me to work it out!

I look forward to seeing everyone over the 3 events!

Take care guys,

Michael Hunt

I've used Hornets since they came out and never had a problem until this year. I lost 5 of 8 purple/gold 78A (80mm) either to half the wheel or the whole wheel coming off the hub. If the problem is indeed corrected, I'm willing to give them another shot. I'm with Mr. Hockey. It sucks to lay out decent coin on equipment only to have it fall apart.

My brother had some green Labeda Fuzion wheels and after about two months one them chunked out really hard and taking a closer look, we realized that all his wheels are becoming chunked and breaking, it's horrible.

I've been through 4 sets of Rink Rat Hornets over the last couple years. They are by far the best wheels I have found. Even when they start to crack and split, they still grip better than anything else out there.

You must have gotten a very unlucky batch.

Sorry to bring up an old thread

I have had this exact same problem with my Hornets and i'm hoping that RR will be able to arrange some replacements for me as for £80 (UK prices!), i expected more. I cant afford to use these wheels if they dont last.

Michael - I have sent you an email to the address on the RR website...i'll PM you as well just in case that doesnt get through

it was a while ago but when my wheels chunked i got my replacements from Mike no problem. I've purchased nothing but rink rats since the first time i tried them except for a set of revisions once (big mistake) :( . Just give them some time guys i'm sure you'll be taken care of

Mike has got back to me already - very impressed with the quick turnaround.

The email was friendly too, not suspicious or anything like i was expecting. He wants to see a picture of the wheel and the date of purchase to analyse the scenario (that's fair). So i'm sending over the picture of the wheel and original reciept - i'm not trying to do anyone out of a set of wheels or anything (i have already bought a replacement set of Labeda Grippers for now, as i have games to play and cant wait), but if it is a defect or a quality issue with the first batch - i feel I am kind of entitled to a new set as the wheels have let me down. (plus considering the price, i expected a durable wheel)

My only problem is - i have had these for 5/6 months now. Do you think they will decline a replacement set of wheels? I mean, after 6 months they shouldnt break up. They may wear down, but not collapse.

Opinions?

Well Mike has been excellent. He has agreed to send me a complete replacement set of their top wheels as mine were defected!!

Cant wait to get them, the Labeda Grippers seem to just slide too much compared to the Rink Rats.

Thanks Rink Rat - recommended!

I've emailed rink rat a few times over the last 6 months or so as my hornets split after just a few skates (and I barely weigh anything). I still haven't had any replies.

Anyone know how I can get in touch?

I just emailed to the address on their website, was polite and offered full proof/evidence for my scenario. I had to send a few photos showing the wheel and some information - but in some circumstances i guess he may request to have the wheel posted to him.

It did take him a little while to get back to me but you have to expect a bit of delay.

Got my repalcement wheels the other day, they're so much better than the Labeda Grippers i bought to replace my old ones.

Just for the record - I decided to email RR one last time (I've emailed several times starting over a year ago). I used the email address on their website and used my other email address. This was 3 weeks and I still haven't got a reply.

It's something to do with the 'old' type of RR wheels, their new formula supposedly doesnt chunk anymore, and my replacement pair haven't either so there's some feedback for you.

People end up with the 'old' wheels when they buy skates with RR wheels on them. For example, my skates were Mission Leiutenants which came with the older type wheels. If you buy 08' or 09' missions, you may get the same problem.

I have a feeling his email spam filter might be blocking your emails?

You might be right about the spam filter but I tried sending from 2 different email accounts (several times). If I lived in the states, I would ring. I'll have to try out revisions and hope they hold out better or stick with the classic HYPER Gs! I can understand any wheel tearing or splitting over a long time but this was under 2 weeks and I weigh nothing.
