Press Conference in Vancouver

Recommended Posts

RDS prints on it's web site that the Vancouver Canucks will announce that Alain Vigneault is their new head coach. The conference is supposed to be held at 4PM today. Sounds like a good move to me.

Great choice. Knows the prospects very well. He's the type of coach that gets the best out of his players.

Now the Canucks have some work to do. First of all, resign Jovanovski, the Sedins and Carter. Then get rid of both Naslund and Bertuzzi so that they can change the face of this team. Maybe they can get one of the big 3 from tampa.

I think Vigneault will do a great job, and the Canucks are gonna finish somewhere around 4/5/6th place.

ummm....

just so you know, naslund was playing with an injured groin all season and bertuzzi still got decent points and 2 hattricks with all the media busting in on him and crowd booing him everywhere he went

Thank you! There's nothing more I want to see at the beginning of the season than to see the WCE reunited. That may be a long shot, but at least having all three on the roster will be nice.

Bertuzzi and Naslund are both great players but if they are a click of two in the dressing room and not talking or mixing well with the rest of the team, some changes may be needed. Hockey is a team sport and if you have two guys pulling in an opposite direction then the rest of the team, then something's gotta be done. Maybe Vigneault will be able to clean up the tensions in the dressing room if all that is reported by the media is true... but if it's all true, something has to change or that team will not do any better next season then they did this past season. They also need to get a good goalie IMO. Cloutier has had enough chances to prove he could do the job. Auld did hockey but not enough to lead the team to the playoffs. Some things will have to be done for that team to compete against the best and hope for a 4-6th place in the standings like previously predicted in a post on that topic

Bertuzzi's great? What? He's had some good years as a by-product of being on a line with two very good players. He's decent but hardly great.

As much as I don't trust Cloutier in net (*COUGH*Minnesota 5-0 loss*COUGH*)

he is a huge part of the team in the dressing room. Linden said the main reason the team fell apart this season was because of no Cloutier. Before he got injured though it looked like he would've had a great season.. too bad

Yeah, maybe I should downgrade Bertuzzi to good or decent.. I should perhaps downgrade Naslund too as he's nowhere to be found on the ice come Playoffs time but Naslund is a good player nonetheless. For some reason, some of the best players point wise in the regular season tend to disappear in the Playoffs. Thornton for exemple is one, even though he did a little better this time around with the Sharks.. but nothing compared to his regular season. Heatley, Spezza and Alfredsson also disappeared in the second round of the playoffs after doing ok in the first round against Tampa. Bertuzzi and Naslund usually play hide and seek in the playoffs and the list goes on...

Correction.... he'll be a useful player under the 'NEW' NHL with his speed. I remember watching him play here in Halifax for a few years.... great player, amazing speed. Reminds me of St. Louis.. no size but never gives up.

I humbly concur, i've always liked the guy as well

btw. did he do the wrap-around thing in Halifax as well?

he bulked up from 165 to 190 lbs

besides the fact that crawford didn't even like him and he still tallied up 6 points in 10 games in the old NHL i'd say he'd be hella good in the new NHL

Ha, I remember someone on the Canucks message board years ago, when Reid first appeared, mentioned that Reid was the next Keon...I might have pissed myself. He's got excellent speed, but will he be able to put the puck in the net, or get it to someone who will? He couldn't when he was in the League before, but if the answer is yes to one or both of those questions next season, we will be in for a treat.
