Guy Incognito 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2006 I'm 6'4", 270 pounds or so. That means a lot of weight falling a long ways on the ice, hopefully less frequently as we move along. I am currently using RBK 8K, and I do not like how far down they go on my arm (way past the end of my gloves), and sometimes they catch up with my bicep protectors on my Sherwood 5030 Shoulder Pads. I am going to buy a new pair and have done some research for them, but not much current information available. Any suggestions?
Guy Incognito 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2006 By the way, I like the protection the RBK 8Ks provide. A little on the warm side during games, though.
Oberon 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2006 I don't know if there's now a RBK equivalent, but I wear Jofa 6500 elbows. You can still find them if you look around. They still have the great Jofa/RBK protection, but are a little shorter at both ends than the 8K. Best fitting elbow pads I've ever had. Also, I shortened the bicep protectors on my 5030 shoulders to the bottom of the velcro to eliminate any conflict with my elbow pads. I'm 5'9", though, with broad shoulders and not the longest arms in town, so you may not want to do that.
Guy Incognito 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2006 I'm guessing maybe the 7K? Or 5K?I think I'm looking for an elbow pad that just covers the elbow. Not so much of the forearm or bicep, due to the level I play.
Edge 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2006 Maybe take a look at a Bauer 8000 or the old Vapor Elbow pads. Easton also makes a good 3-piece elbow pad. You might like that style as they tend to not be as long but still provide good protection.
donkey87 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2006 How about a pair of Jofa 9025s.
CAINE 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2006 I second the 9025s. I just got another pair when I saw they were $10. They're secure, comfortable and won't catch on your shoulder pads. You'll need to find a bigger size, Jofa's size 5 (5'8"-6'4") or size 6 (6'+).Chadd reviews their predecessor here:http://www.modsquadhockey.com/index.php?showtopic=10279
pantherfan 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2006 I always thought the Mission elbow line would be one of the best protection for big guys considering how big the actual elbow cap things are but RBK/Jofa are my personal preference
Guy Incognito 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2006 Great info! I've checked out both and am going up to my LHS to purchase some today. Anyone need some 8K's? :)
chk hrd 164 Report post Posted June 24, 2006 if your going to your LHS to by new elbow pads, take your shoulder pads and gloves with you. That way you can put it all on together to see how it feels or if anything doesn't work right.
Chadd 916 Report post Posted June 25, 2006 I still use my 8025s from time to time but if they don;t work for you look into just removing the bicep cuff from any pads that you do like. My DR EP44s just used elastic to hold th ebicep in place so there were no frayed edges.
Guy Incognito 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2006 Thanks, guys. I got the 9025s and they're extremely simple and will fit perfectly with what I've got. The guy at my store said he loved his (he's using CCMs now though, so how much he loved them I don't know) and he did what Chadd said to do- cut the bicep protection off. I can't wait to get out there and use them, seems like they're exactly what I was looking for. Thanks again!
