DasGoalie

choosing between pads

Recommended Posts

i am going to purchase a pair of legs pads for the rest of my hockey playing days and after looking around the internet and some local stores, i have narrowed my choices to the above and i was looking for some general feedback.i am very interested in the inside of the knee and the high knee lift. i play 2-3 times a week and i am all butterfly. also, if anyone has any suggestions for a different type of pad feel free

the velocity is a sweet pad, and if ur looking for a stiff pad like the epic you can order the velocity to meet those specs. I would stay away from the bauer pads just because of the air bladder thats in them may not perform all the time especialy if you want it to be a last pair u buy

I haven't heard of too many people happy with their Epics, most seem to be having rotational problems.

I dont think the Epics are designed that well especially if you are a butterfly goalie, they are designed to stay square on your leg. If you want a good butterfly pad try the V2's, the RBK's or Eagle Fusions. I havent heard anything about the Bauer Nike Vapor's really.

yeah the epics are a more traditional style pad not overly butterfly because they are a stiffer pad. when vaughn makes that pad they only use 2 pieces to make the pad where with the V2 they use 3. But if you wanted the pad to not really drop that much you can order a V2 with the knee blocks all one piece like the epic/rbk/fusion

ok.. taking all the advice and checking out the V2's , i've decided that they are the way i want to go. nw the question is, i have never custom ordered a pad before and as stated above i dont think i'll ever do it again. what bells and whistles do you all suggest? i know there are quite a few things that can be customized i just dont know what exeactly they are and what works well. any suggestions would be appreciated!!

Add at least 2" to the thigh rise, get your name embroidered in 'em (just for the kewl factor) and take the traction grip out of the calf stabilizer wings. Otherwise they are perfect just the way they are.

The only other things to consider are which graphic you want and what colours to get and you're all set for the rest of your playing days. Enjoy...
