hockeymom 2 Report post Posted June 30, 2006 My CD Player skips constantly and 2 guys have given me 2 conflicting pieces of advice about what to do. They both say it is the laser tracking. One says they are no problem to fix...and take it in to the repair shop. The other says once the laser tracking is gone, forget it...I should save the $60 bench fee and just go get another CD player. If it matters, it's an older Philips... the very first 5 CD player, so it doesn't owe me anything. What should I do? Vapor 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2006 CD players have become comodity items, they are cheaper to buy new than to repair. Once the laser goes, your screwed. Invest in a new player.

Vapor 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2006 Correct me if im wrong but lasers can be repaired or replaced It far exceeds the cost (for parts and labor) of a new and (most likely) better unit
fastmiele 59 Report post Posted July 3, 2006 Correct me if im wrong but lasers can be repaired or replaced It far exceeds the cost (for parts and labor) of a new and (most likely) better unit exactly, brand new entry level dvd players can found at Walmart for $40 CDN which I found no difference in picture quality compared to my $200 Sony dvd player. Its going to cost you more to have them look and fix your old model then to buy a brand new one.

What is that ? The fee just for looking at it ?I say forget it, you can easily get a brand new Sony model for $39 at Future Shop.http://www.futureshop.ca/search/searchresu...d=EN&search=KWSI don't know where you live, but I am confident that if you can get to a Best Buy or Future Shop you can find a good deal.
