Keith, I ordered the Sprung A8's last week and I was wondering the average ship time on them. Did you have the black A8's I asked for them on the order.

my paypal is sperry7@gmail.com

Thanks

Everyone else- I am going to roll 80's on the A8's with pro stock size 8.5 Bauer 8090's, Swiss bearings and Labeda Gripper Milleniums. These should be a pretty long chassis on these boots but will give me plenty of grip!

Keith is shipping tomorrow for items in stock. I'm ordering an extra rocker arm and axle as I think one of the rocker arms was a victim of the vice at my LHS, and by just enough to strip out the slot where I placed the axle nut.

The current A8 might be too much frame for the Bauer boot. My Tour's above are a size 8 with an A6 medium frame. I size out around 8.5 in Bauer, so it might not line up quite right with an A8. Keith's working on an all 80 medium frame as well. The current A6 has plenty of grip, as I successfully navigated the tween and early teen obstacle course at the rink this weekend in them.

I'm going to skate them for a full session this coming weekend and give a more complete review of my experiences on them, but grip was no issue.

Was it really tight fit with the A6's and the Tour size 8's?

I was concerned about the fit as well, my boot size is kind of in the middle between medium and large. Keith said they should be fine so I am hoping they are fine. If not anybody looking for A8's for a few bucks off? Black ones I think

a large looks like it would go end to end on the boot I used. If Keith says it'll be fine he would know better than I would, it just looks akward in my mind's eye.

I wear an 11 Mission, and the large chassis just barely fits. I had to move the chassis another 1/8 inch back from the recommended placement as the setup was a little "toe-ish", and that's as far back as I could possible mount it on the sole. Any closer to the end of the heel and I would be drilling air. In retrospect I might have gone for the smaller chassis, but I am still immensely happy with these. When these boots wear out, I'll try to find something with a more generous sole.

Crap, that doesn't sound good for me...hopefully they will fit well. They might be like speedskates lol. Anyone looking for A8's that has new A6's? I might go another route if these don't fit my boot I wanted the 80's as well as

Wait till they get there, which will probably be today. The toe mount on the A8 is longer so it can support the boot toe better, like ice holders. It's supposed to cover as much of the sole as possible and still fit on.

There are 8.5 Rbk/CCMs and Bauers out there with A8's and they're very happy. I know of one post for sure. We've had a pair of 10.5 Mission Type Ms with A8s from the first samples, and they are much loved by many many players.

With 6-7 for the medium and 8.5 for the large, I sometimes drill the two back two holes into the heel inward from the original back holes. And more often with Grafs because of their narrow heel. No Problem. 8.5 Eastons are a little shorter and maybe not OK, depending on the skater.

The A8 on the 8.5 is about the same proportion as the A6 on a 6.5/7. Everyone is used to a look that goes with rigid frame tech. But this also includes 10.5 boots with no wheel showing front or rear-- too short, and size 6s with a frame that's way too long.

With Sprungs, too short is worse than too long. Just as with some Hum'rs, the frame seems too long for the boot, but Sprungs turn in Much less space and are totally agile vs the rigid version of too long. Brave new world. ;)

An update for those that have been asking me WHEN!!! are my Sprungs going to be mounted to my 7K's. After having 2 "shops" within 90 mins of my home say that they can't do it I am sending my frames to Keith at Sprung on Monday, and he will be mounting them for me for a VERY reasonable fee and shipping them back to me. This way I am also guaranteed a professional installation by the market leader in ice to inline conversions.

Can't say it enough.....Thank you Keith for bailing me out.

well I got the A8's in the mail and I put in my wheels/bearings/spacers. They look to be the same exact size as my ice chassis. (Bauer 8090 size 8.5) They are getting put on at the moment so I hope they fit! It looks like it will be just right. It couldn't me 1mm longer or it would definitely not work.

Sprung:

The A8's are too big for my size 8.5 8090 boots. The wheels stick out an inch front and back at least. When are the 80mm medium frames going to be available? I need to send these back and get some that will fit better. Are there going to be stiffer springs in the 80mm medium frames?

you don't get back to emails what is the best way to reach you? Got a phone #?

Thanks,

Steve

So, two hours of skate time on the Sprungs, thought I'd share my experience with the new model.

It's such a night and day difference from the old model for me that I don't feel like I'm on the same product. There does seem to be a short break-in period of about an hour skating them, last night it suddenly felt like I could really dig into my steps after a little bit, maybe 45 minutes. The 78A Formula G's, which are a single pour wheel as far as I know, on the Sprung felt very close to 76A Hot Shots on the Vanguard as far as grip and ride goes.

Where the Sprung was most different was in the corners going round and round in the same skating session circle. A little lean and you were turning. It's not a "OMG!!!" kind of a difference, but it's noticeable. For the length the wheelbase has it cuts around obstacles, like small children who step right out in front of you, with relative ease. The wheelbase length is noticeable every once in a while where you'll find yourself brushing your leg on a crossover or getting in a tight area and trying to push away to open floor. It's really a minor adjustment to make. As I thought, the carving in the corners is really good in a smaller rink, and the grip is really quite nice all the way around. Coasting didn't seem to carry me as far, so a bit more active-footed product but not too bad. The big step for me is still there, so one fear I had is alleviated.

On the design side of things, DO NOT have these riveted to an older boot with the thicker white TPS plastic type insole unless you periodically want to visit the shop or they have some abnormally long rivets. I was warned when I first picked them up that one rivet in the left heel was going to need attention shortly. Thankfully because we had gotten one in there the replacement rivet today went in fine and should hold. I'd imagine most boots with composite outsoles are thinner and prove easier. It may also have to do with the skate size and where my frames lined up.

Once the snow clears up I'm heading for test 2 which is playing pickup at one of the outdoor rinks around here. I don't know if Sprungs are going to be my first choice of frame, but I'm not unhappy with the new model like I was the old one. The additional stiffness is just what the doctor ordered, and I'd never turn down a pair if I needed something to skate on in a pinch. I also made the recommendation to my LHS that if he has ice players wanting to pick up inlines, the Sprungs are THE product for that.

I have a quirk that if I don't skate on ice for a long time, which I haven't in several yrs now, my arches start aching and burning until I get back in shoes. It only occurs on ice skates, I'm assuming because of the rocking motion. Yesterday when I started to feel it after and hour and a half on these. They're probably good for playing in though as opposed to just skating around, as you get the rest every few minutes and aren't usually skating for 90 minutes solid.

I have A6 frames and i was wondering if its possible for the rocker arms for the A8 frame fit on the A6? I remember Keith saying something about eventually that was going to be possible but I cant remember if it was for a future generation of frames.

Thanks Guys

Hey, my parents have agreed to let me get new skates but they are against drilling into the boot. If i get a Pair of 9k ice skates and send them to you keith can you mount the sprungs on them without having to drill into the foot bed. I know new holes need to be drilled to mount the chassis but will holes have to be drilled so the wheels clear?

Keith,

This may be a stupid question but I was wondering. First off I love my Sprungs but do you have any research that tells what type ice blade the Sprung mimicks? The Tuuk rocker chassis came with a chart that told you depending on wheel setup which type of ice blade the chassis most closely mimicked and that made me wonder if anyone had thought of that with the Sprung or if it even made since to try a comparison. For example I have the medium A6 with 76mm wheels on a size 10 boot Easton's again, just switched again off of my Tacks. I just thought if it was possible to determine that a Sprung setup A6/MEDIUM on a size 10 boot was most like a CCM ice blade, a T-Blade or a TUUK ice blade it could be cool to set up two identical sets of boots, one for ice and one for roller. Hope what I said made since.

Thanks

Rick Henry

you know Rick, I was asking about different durometer springs a while ago for the same reason. Put a stiff one in the back and a medium or soft in the front for a forward pitch, reverse for heel, etc.

The Tuuk rocker I think worked on radius size depending on wheel setup, so I'm not sure we'll see that accurately translate to the Sprungs just because they are a very different animal

Here's a pic for Iceburg. I have another great pic of Grafs at NARCH. Gold Medal and top scorer, which I'll put up soon as it's in the bucket.

Graf703.jpg

And besides NARCH, I went to Coast to Coast and watched an intermediate team with four pairs of the Special 8Ks. They've never gotten a freeby before, so they aren't like many pros, who do. They love the skates in all the ways you can love skates.

I'll put up some Sprung NARCH and 8K pics shortly.

Anybody going to Lets Play Hockey in Vegas?

do you need to dremel out the footbed in order to mount the sprungs with all 80mm wheels

No....you do not need to dremel any skate to mount sprungs as the wheels themselves do not require being countersunk into the footbed.

Keith,

My 7K's and A8's should be on your doorstep sometime this week. Thanks for helping me out as always, and looking forward to lacing them up sometime next week. Thanks!!

Thought I would post a pic of the skates I finally decided to go with.

10ye7p4.jpg

This is a size 10 boot but the way that the sole is made it makes the boot look a little bigger. I may end up moving the chassis forward slightly but even though it doesn't look like it in the photo I have about a 1/4 inch of wheel in the front and a little more showing in the rear. I have considered the large A8 chassis with the 80mm wheels but I think I will wait a while.

Rick Henry
