Brière on the move

Recommended Posts

I think Buffalo will probably spend the money on him and move other guys due for big raises. He was on of their captains and their best player in the playoffs. Either Buffalo is going to be moving some very good players out of town

Finally moving Biron will help relieve some of the salary issues.

We will take him here in Detroit :)

That's the trade I've been waiting for, they just haven't been able to agree on the compensation. Maybe including Briere would get them Zetterberg?

I would love to see some Quebequois playing pour les Habitants again. Briere there would be sweet.

I think it will be Lang or Datsyuk before Zetterberg. Zetterberg seems to be the next alternate if not Captain when the old guard goes.

Lang doesn't fit with Buffalo and I'm not sure Datsyuk is as much of a prize as his talent would indicate. I could see Lang to SJ for one of their goalies, then SJ swapping Marleau or Lang for a defenseman.

The problem with Buffalo is they have many players in arbitration, and since most of thwm had a good season last year, it's probably gonna cost quite a bit of money to keep all of them.

Personnally, I'd keep Brière. He's a franchise type of player, but the Sabres have to make choices. Connolly, Afinogenov and Dumont are all gonna cost over 2.5 mils, I think, and some of their other young guys who filed for arbitration all had a good season last year. I think the fact that Buffalo had such a good season last year is gonna advantage the players in the arbitration process, which is not good for the Sabres.

the sabres wont let danny go. They will move some other players before him for sure. The sabres were offering him 4.5/4 years and he wanted 5/5 years. look for a player like dumont to go.

They couldn't agree to terms over .5 mil and 1 more year? For a player like Briere, I'd just assume the Sabres would have to cave in. They could have locked him up for good, but now he has a chance to walk next year.

It sucks that the great playoff run is going to overshadow the average seasons. I realize Briere was hurt and had a great PPG but other than that nobody really deserves that much, everyone is pretty much even in the 2-3 range. It's really only a matter of losing a player or two, don't expect the team to fall apart.

Buffalo was a team who relied on it's depth. They really didn't have any "top end" talent. They had a number of good players built for the NNHL.

I can't see Briere being unloaded, but making space for his contract will hurt their depth. If he's traded (which I doubt he will be), I'd expect a younger/cheaper player to come back the other way. I'm not sure Lang or Datsyuk fit that bill.

Kenny Holland has told teams not to even ask about 3 players in the organization- Zetterberg, Lidstrom and Kronwall are all untouchable in regards with trades...

Without including one of those guys(or Datsyuk), I don't think they have enough to get a number one goalie via trade.

If the Sabres tarde Briere, they'll probably be asking for a d-man, to replace McKay, and a forward who can put it some goals here and there. And maybe add in a few draft picks.

One thing's for sure, they'll sign him before tomorrow. They don't want him to become UFA. Even if they trade him for not much, at least they'll still have something for it.
