I posted about 2007 skates, then thought about how pointless it would be, and deleted my post.

Just book smart and you'll be fine. As far as "secret info" goes, I did save my previous employer's ass on a particular skate model because I knew what was happening. They reduced pricing before the online guys did and got rid of the stock.

Avoid online places altogether. Just because hockeymonkey makes a lot of money and will therefore will not "drop off the map" doesn't mean that they're not hosing that money off of people who are gulible enough to buy stuff from them. They are crooks and croonies.

Even aside from the fact that they don't mind screwing people around, think that you're really not going to save ANY money in the long run. If you support a LHS, even if you have to drive a bit, you will pay off dividends in the long run. Become friends with the shop, help them out and they will want to help you. It's that easy.
