Malkin

Recommended Posts

Well someone's gonna have to move to the wing. They've drafted centers with high first rounders for 3 straight years.

Im pretty sure either the Pens or Crosby has said even if one of them was a wing they won't be on the same line. On the powerplay yes.

Playing 3 guys who are all projected to be #1 centers on three separate lines is retarded, unless one of them doesn't reach their potential. I could see not putting all three together, but at least two of them should be on a line.

What are all of you basing your Malkin judgments from? Besides the WJC and Olympics, have any of you seen him play a game? International tournament play is much different than season play. Regardless, those 8-10 games aren't a good enough sample to see how good someone actually is.

I could see possibly 2 of them together on a line tops. The only way they should all be together is on a powerplay and even then not great to not have a top notch guy on pp2.

I see your point, Kosy...But he was playing against the best men in the game during the Olympics as a 19 YO or so and looked very good to say the least in those games. He fit right in

I meant it to be directed more towards the people who were saying "he'll only get 50 points" or "he won't be a Crosby or Ovechkin". While people had the luxury of watching Crosby, many didn't get to with Ovechkin. Even though he was highly touted, Ovechkin's performance last season was shocking to most of us because even though we had seen glimpses of him, we never saw the whole thing. The same can't be said about Crosby because those who were interested got to see a full season's worth of him, not just ten international games. If anything I agree that he'll come in and have a 100 point season or damn near close to one. Like you said, he looked right in place in the Olympics.

2 of them should definatley be together or else they'll all be lacking talent to reach their potential and the ice-time won't be enough for them either. For PP's, I'd put one of them on the point with Gonchar (he should still be around once they are all there). Then have the other 2 upfront with another winger.

Russian hockey federation said it would sign a transfer agreement allowing its players to move to the NHL for a $200,000 fee that would be split by all the Russian teams.

Why would it have been split between all the Russian teams?

Because all the Russian teams think that they are held responsible for the hockey "education" that they gave the player.. If the player can leave for free to the NHL, his team only invested in the player and never got something back.. I think this money flows back to the younger players developmental program.. Or at least that is what they say..

I think it would be quite honest to ask at least for a amount of money if this player makes his transfer to North America.

The next Alexei Yashin

How?

Lazy floater, didn't really have anything to do with him staying in Russia except for the fact that he's already becoming a distraction and he has yet to play an NHL game.

And for those who keep saying how great he played in the Olympics, what exactly did Malkin do in the WJC's when Russia played Canada? Nothing.

How many games have you seen him play?

He was the best player in the WJC and he did more than AO, but I guess AO is just a lazy good for nothing floating Russian as well.

From what I have seen of the guy, he'll kick ass when he hits the NHL no doubt. He's well-rounded and can either be an amazing playmaker or an efforless goal scorer. Lemieux is a great comparison to the way he plays.

I like the Yashin comparison better. He'll have a few 90 point seasons and he'll score his fair share of goals but he will never be a guy you'll want on your team. We can wait and see though, I may be wrong.

edge is right he will be great he was one of the best players on the Russan team for the olympics and he isnt in the NHL yet. He really just has to keep his temper down and not kick guys or take stupid penalties

You are wrong. Malkin is THE best player not in the NHL, and would be in the top 1/4 as a rookie in the NHL. Wake up to the fact that just because he is Russian, doesnt mean he a "floater". I'm guessing you havent ever seen him play.

I've seen him play a half dozen times, he's good, but not great.

I wasn't trying to say he would come in and be the best player what I was trying to say was that during the Olympics he was one of the better players on the russian team filled with NHL stars. The point I was trying to make was this kid is the real deal and he will be a good player. I was not saying he will step in and become a Joe Sakic or Peter Forsberg as a rookie and I agree that he is by far the best player not in the NHL

That was Jiri Dopita's old title as well.

The difference is that Dopita was 30 when that was said. Malkin is 20. He is a phenom at this age, and is only going to get better. He WILL be in the top 5 players in the league in 5 years.
