Eric Desjardins to retire

Flyers spokesman Zack Hill said the 37-year-old Desjardins, a native of Rouyn, Que., was going to make an official announcement Thursday.

A two-time all-star, Desjardins' 17-year career was slowed by injuries in recent seasons. He played only 45 games last season and just 48 two years ago and was not offered a contract by the Flyers this summer.

I'm sure it was more a mutual thing then just Philly not offering a contract. He's been great to the franchise for years, so they probably talked about this during the season. Too bad, in his prime he would have been exceptional in the new NHL

He got booed more than any other Flyer in recent memory. A lot of the fans and media hated him because he didn't throw big hits all the time. There was a stretch of years when he was one of the top couple two-way defencemen in the NHL.

That's something i wasn't aware of. Eric Dejardins wasn't phily's fan favorite player and i'm happy to know about it. I was believing all the bullshit we hear when someone retires: "great player, loved by everyone, loosing an awesome player, etc"

Great player. The way things are going these days I'd say HOF.?
