I guess it’s possible they broke in too big. I’m very new to skating/hockey (like 5 months into it… mid life crisis) so I don’t have much of a knowledge bank to go from. Also, I live in CA with only one small LHS around, and they don’t have much selection.

I have some 2090 (size 8) that I got first, but after they broke in they felt a bit wide and not very supportive. So, I got the F1s (size 7.5) They felt great immediately, but then…:(

Anyway, I’m back in the 2090s with two sox and they seem OK (no heal slipping), but I do miss the stiffness of the F1.

Do you think the CCM FIT system is worth trying? Also, any other suggestions for making the F1 usable?

TIA

It seems maybe you bought the wrong skates for your type of foot. Salmings are W-I-D-E skates for paddle footed skaters like me. If a pair of 2090s feel too wide then maybe you should got with a different brand. The 2090s are wide for Bauers, but still not nearly as wide as the Salmings. The standard Bauer Supreme series skates are the narrowest, and there are cheap deals on the Bauer 3000 skates to be found. Those are the skates I started with before I couldn't stand the squeezing any more (Note to new people. Just because a shop is local doesn't mean they know a darn thing about skates!). After cycling through Eastons I ended up with CCMs and the Salmings. It certainly does sound like the skates have broken in, though not in a good way for you. I'm sure you can sell them to somebody here (maybe me!), and try a different route. Try the Supremes or maybe Easton ULs in 7.5.

QFT.

I can only dream of fitting my fat feet into bauers. Even the 8090's were too narrow around the midsection of my foot. You may just have the wrong type of skate for your foot.

If you end up having to take your losses and just buy a new skate, I would honestly get fitted at your lhs and have them order the skates (if they are lacking selection). I would look at mission skates. For me they were a midway point between the narrowness of the bauer and the wide bottom ccms.

I must have a wide & thick fore foot with tiny ankles because the front of both skates feels pretty good with the looseness coming into play from just ahead of the ankle bone back.

Maybe I’ll try some Bunga Pads just behind my ankle bones in the F1s and see if that helps.

If that doesn’t work, I’ll look into the Mission skates.

However, the adjustability of the RBK 5K pumps sounds very appealing. How do 5Ks fit compared to the F1s and 2090s?

Anyway, thanks to all for you insights and suggestions!
